There's one each in Jax and Orlando. So if you're in one of those areas your kid better be one of the 11 best at her age. I know that there will be soe that will travel great distances if they don't make the local GDA team but there is no guarantees that they will where they are willing to travel to. It's going to be very exclusive and people don't seem to realize that. They think that it's going to be as simple as "We're going to the GDA."
It will be a whole lot less exclusive when the majority of the elite players in the nation say No Thanks to GDA. Your little Mia might be exceptional, but most of her teammates will be lesser players who were fooled by USSF's propaganda. You will have a hard time convincing anyone that you're in the top tier league.

Really? Any club can round up 11 players in an age group for DA, especially if they tell them they can play high school soccer too. What a joke? When the northeast is having the DA events and little Mia who made DA is playing high school.
Get some consistency and tell the 11 DA players, NO HIGH SCHOOL FOR YOU.

That's the problem. When you tell them this, 10 of the 11 will walk away and go back to ECNL. Maybe 11 of 11 if they think about what their goals really are.

Well you don't let the girls rule the roost. If you allow one girl to do it, you open it up for every girl and even inequality lawsuits.

Buffy, come play High School Soccer with me. Yay!
Exactly, if the GDA sets the bar high and has elite coaches and training then it won't be hard to find 11 players in a birth year committed to the program.

Wait, are you saying clubs should tell young girls they can play high school in order to get them to sign up for GDA, then tell them never mind they can't? If you want lawsuits that will do it.

Heinrichs has her head up her butt. It's not a surprise that the Federation and US Soccer is so messed up.

It's amazing how many people are being fooled by USSF's propaganda.

Because in college soccer, those girls are getting “paid” $30,000, $50,000, $60,000 a year [in scholarship] to play college soccer. College coaches want their future players to be in the Girls Development Academy."

She's way off the mark here. Sure, there are very select few that are getting the money she speaks of but a big majority of the players aren't getting nearly that much - especially with the trend of expanded roster sizes. Some players might only be getting books paid for. She's attempting to sell the dream that if you want to play DI soccer, you had better be in the GDA. Who is she trying to fool? There are a lot more players that will be freshmen at DI programs in any single year than there are spots in GDA.
That irked me as well. She's setting up unrealistic expectations of rewards. Yes I'm sure GDA will gather much of the top D1 talent. But it won't get all. And there are many more opportunities for girls to play soccer because gda can't fill all the spots (much like ecnl doesn't now ). She is also overly confident about college coach buy in because that is not there yet at all. And ask the men's coaches about the success of the boys DA - so successful they're filling more of their rosters with international players than ever before.

Not the op but that wasn't my takeaway at all - just that it should be an all or nothing allowance. But that won't happen. Boys clubs are currently allowed to grant waivers. To date no lawsuits and it would be tough to win - playing DA is not a right. You can play under their rules or choose not to. Is their favoritism in it? He**yes. But they shoot themselves in the foot in doing do - makes it much less credible and helps kill trust

I do think it will be real easy for the DA girls to get plucked by the top D1 schools. The American Way to always be better than another, and DA and even International are the brands to solve the riddle. College coaches won't have to work hard to recruit. Who you gonna call?

Right. If only 11 girls can play then make it elite and something special and different. If they play high school it is the same ole plus the DA team can't train and travel for events together if players are missing for high school. Make the girls choose, DA or Club/HS. Simple.

                            Dear coaches,....soccer parents, CLUB DIRECTORS,

                            April Heinricks states

Bigger, faster, stronger is effective at 15, 16, 17. If I had a dollar for every college coach who said, “This kid is too small to play college soccer I’d be a very wealthy person.” Because bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic dominates the college game. Don’t get me wrong, there are some colleges that play fantastic soccer. And athleticism is a huge component, at every level. But we’re looking for the more technical, tactical, sophisticated, two-footed players, players who use the sole of the foot, the outside of their feet. Players who can manipulate the ball and are not worried about coping with the first pressure. And those players at 15, 16, 17 are quite often a little bit smaller.

Lets go win another U9 tournament with our big girls.....yay.

April will be very surprised and shocked at what the girls choose. USSF is way out of touch with their targeted market. They have no idea what their customers really want.

DA's can get 11 girls in an age who are superstars who don't care about their high schools poor team.
