    playing up or playing premier

Son is 07 and strongest player on town's A team. Its one of the the better town teams, so players are solid and coaching is good. He's getting bored and frustrated. We are looking at various clubs. Our town program offered to let him play 1 or 2 ages up. Its a program we know and the 05 coach is amazing.

Any thoughts on pro/con of playing up vs. a top club? While money is important its not the main deciding factor.

Sign him up immediately at OW. They will get him on the national team in 2 years or your money back

Some older kids will not want to play with possibly their siblings friend.

If the player is good enough and wants to be challenged they should move on to the next level.

You could take him to CFC except they won’t have turf fields anytime soon

Stay with the town program. Put the money you would have spent on the Premier club into a 529 and tutoring. Scholarships are a pipe dream for most and his studies are 1000 times more important than soccer.

playing with better players (technically) really is better. Bored and frustrated is bad -being the best on the team is great for confidence, but it doesn't build team skill. Playing up can help, but bigger and older doesn't necessarily mean better and are those older kids going to be okay giving up time to the little kid two years younger? maybe with the right coach, but if not this year, in the next year get him on a team with skilled players, it makes a difference

Scholarships are not even part of the consideration. If he gets any sort of scholarship it will be academic. My focus is putting him in a place that will allow him to play with stronger kids and keep him motivated. It's just with everything i read on TS, it seems that most premier clubs (unless you do one of the MLS clubs) are not much better than a strong town team.

Get yourself over to ow asap. Pay thru the nose, lose your free time and happy moments, put kid on pedestal, send kid to endicott

He's an 07. Too young to sweat this, he might not be playing soccer in 2 years. With what these clubs charge I hope you have extra money to set on fire.

I found that you are better off playing with yourself rather than playing up

Pro is that a top club (FSA, CFC or OW) will not allow him to play up. I'm sure he's talented but don't let a smaller club sell you on fun and love of a game. He will have more fun at this age with his buds than a club that'll use him for their selfishness. Boys develop at a younger age and a goon 2 years older may try to take a cheap shot. It's not worth the risk.

Con? Simple... get ready to start paying for a small luxury vehicle now by the time he hits 15. Keep it as cheap as possible until you have to do so.
                        Good luck

OW definitely would (they do it often), but he will find a world of difference between his current town team and these premier teams, so probably would not be capable of that. Take him to work out with each club near you at least twice each and pick the one that you think is a best fit for him next year (and don't give up travel either if he still likes playing with his friends and can continue to excel and gain confidence without being over burdened).

Where are you located. Try sporting. If you ever played their 2007 middletown magic travel team then you'd see where your kid stands. That team is extremely talented. Most of them kids play for sporting ct

You U-little Sporting parents are one of a kind. Now you're the measuring stick for talent. That program needs to blowup just because of the insanely delusional parents.
