Could be that the assistant(s) are better equipped to run an Ivy program? Team hasn't won a league game in three years, I wouldn't hang that on the assistants that have only been there one year. Cornell has a history of lazy hires, so why expect different this time?

Most new head coaches want to bring in their own hires. They might keep one for continuity and that person may or may not keep the job after a year

I'm guessing it is a package deal one way or the other as the assistants are a married couple.

If Cornell keeps the asst they are going to fall behind another 4 years

That is not a very impressive Ivy League record to say the least.

Cornell became the guaranteed win for all the other teams. It takes some time to right the ship but it can be done. The current men's coach was 1-14-2 his first year (2016) and went 10-5-2 this year. Harvard just canned it's losing men's coach and brought in a guy from Tufts with a few D3 national championships. It will take him time to turn it around but he'll probably be successful. It's all about making a good hire

More likely to be current D3 head coach from a nerd school, a D1 P5 asst, or are expectations lower?
Maybe they will hire Patrick Farmer again and bring him back, oh wait.....

Pat Farmer had the best year by far in the past 10 or so year. He did well

Your definition of well is a very, very low standard.

                        Ivy League record, 7-25-3, .24%

                        He failed miserably

                        2012, 0-6-1, 8th place, 8 teams in the Ivy
                        2013, 1-6-0, 8th
                        2014, 2-5-0, 7th
                        2015, 2-4-1, 5th
                        2016, 2-4-1, 6th

No Ivy League program should not be in top 4 once every few years. Cornell is still a top 20 school academically in the country.

A good coach and recruiter can get Cornell competitive in 2 recruiting classes.

There's only so many good players with top grades to go around and they're looking at other Ives also, along with other top academic schools. Cornell isn't a top Ivy and the location isn't appealing to some. Yes a good recruiter makes a difference but it may take a bit longer to right the ship.

Has Cornell even started interviewing for the position yet? Its a hard enough job but losing out on valuable recruiting time is making it an even worse job
