Second there are clubs thst MARKET themselves as academies but they are no DA Development Acadenies.

There are several clubs that call themselves Academies (BARCA, SUSA, SESA, Commack) however that is like saying your local deli saying the “ Worlds Best Coffee” you can claim it is but its reasonable to assume its not the worlds Best.

Same with “soccer academies” they can market they are an academy reasonable to assume they are truly not academies
So, with that being said, what qualities would you look for in a long island based soccer program?

Not true. The NY Cosmos are a US Soccer Developmental Academy. People like to disparage them for various reasons but they are a US DA club and the only one on LI. They have U-13, U-14, and U-15 teams. They might even be free. They were as of last year but might have lost their funding. Not sure

Need more info to give suggestions. Kid's age, talent, how many practices are you looking for.
        1. Kid has to enjoy the team and want to play there. The effort the kids gives is the most important factor in what they will get out of any club. Keep it fun not a job.
        2. Quality teammates to practice against. If the kid is far and away the best player on the team it will be hard for them to develop against inferior players.
        3. Number of practices. Ideally 3 or 4 per week with 1 game per week. Winter counts.
        4. Fit for your child. Is he playing the correct position, or several positions, and developing.
        5. Quality coach who encourages creativity and development
