It was a bizarre game to say the least. Bolts just folded psychologically after 2-0 . this team only lost 1-0 to the revs in the Fall. They are a solid team which can beat the revs. Just one of those days.

Will anyone even notice a change with this merger?

Greg C takes on stars north but is booted and sets up as DOC at Aztec, Aztec then has loss of best coaching to Breakers, Stars North is in trouble as is Aztecs, now with FC Boston (regardless of depth of talent the population base and affluence in greater boston spell trouble for stars) and development of Breakers South the new 'FC Boston' has an enormous pool of players from the north to south state borders. What does Stars have Western Ma? ha Look at it this way, Families with one boy and one girl are going to go to FC Boston for convenience of Dap/Npl/Ecnl bundle and in a couple years who's going to bother to drive to Lancaster when a complex emerges on the 128/93/95/90 corridors within easy reach.

The clock is ticking... Stars better take the Nefc buyout - lol

"Solid team" seriously?! They were lucky they didn't lose 5-0 to the revs in the fall. I was there - the ball almost never made it to the revs side. There are some solid PLAYERS on this team no doubt but there are too many players on this team that are 2nd division NEP level ( how the heck did they make the team?!?) They ruin it for the rest of the team.

You're pretty clueless. Some of those kids were some of the Bolts' best players.

Very soon, within days, we anticipate that Scorpions/Breakers will be completing a merge with FC Greater Boston Bolts. The Boards of both clubs have voted unanimously to create 'FC Boston'. Girls teams will be known as 'Boston Breakers Academy', boys teams as 'Bolts'. The merge agreement is being completed today and needs the review of an attorney, then will be signed if no issues arise.

The merge will give both clubs more geography, will improve the size and strength of both boys and girls programs. It will give the former Bolts girls access to NPL and ECNL and will give the former Scorpions boys access to the US Development Academy and the Pre-Academy. FC Boston will have more visibility and recognition than the clubs had previously. There will be synergy and economies of scale. Very few clubs, none closer than New Jersey, have access to both the ECNL and US Soccer Boys Development Academy.

Many people are aware of the discussions but since it is not fully completed no announcement has been made. We didn't want families left in the dark any longer, hence this 'pre-announcement'. When the merge agreement is signed we will make a more formal announcement.

Things you may want to know…

Fees… should not change because of the merge. If we add something or remove something then that could cause a change, aside from that we (Scorpions/Breakers and FC Greater Boston) have agreed to generally hold line on fees for 2015-16. Fees for all teams will be made known prior to tryouts.

Tryouts .. As usual. The traditional tryout sites of each club will still be used and players should attend tryouts as usual. The exceptions will be that any player attending ECNL and/or NPL tryouts (girls) or Boys Academy tryouts (boys) should attend those specific tryouts (Taunton for girls in second week of June, Mt. Ida College and Brandeis for boys, invitation only… Scorpion boys should speak with Dan Colwell). We will be sending a more comprehensive guide to tryouts in the near future.

Uniforms… Scorpion boys are at the end of their cycle and Bolts girls as part of the Breakers agreement must wear Boston Breakers Academy gear. Boys will need to get Bolts gear, girls Boston Breakers gear. These players will only need to purchase a modified/lesser kit. At the beginning of next year (2016-17) all teams will be at the end of their cycles and will start new from there.

Coaches... Coaching assignments for all teams will be made prior to tryouts.

Locations… most teams will not change locations due to this merge.

Leadership. Each former club will be provided 4 seats on the new Board. Brian Ainscough will be the Boys Director. Fred Marks will be the Girls director. Sydney Stoll and Dan Colwell will have high positions in FC Boston.

                          Semi-related announcements…

                          A. FC Boston has hired Mo Keita, Norm James and Doc Simpson to create and build a new Region in areas North of Boston.

                          B. FC Boston will be creating and building a new Region out of FK Taunton.
First off, congratulations to some fine people who are trying to make a difference. This is news to celebrate and reason to be optimistic about the soccer landscape in Mass. The only fly in the ointment though is they didn't get rid of FM. Unfortunately his presence will doom this venture.

So let me get this straight...
                                - top of bolts girls will have no shot at ECNL...
                                - top of bolts girls rosters might get a few token NPL spots but given the mediocrity of both bolts and breakers NPL teams, will it really make a difference
                                - e xisiting NPL teams disgruntled because instead of getting better they added mediocre bolts girls
                                - poor Scorps west has become even more irrelevant than they were before

Conclusion... Not good for the girls..

I do think the strategy in the North has legs though. Big difference is the coaches involved in the North are excellent coaches.
