ECNL will most likely cease operations

Unable to keep up with the GDA, the ECNL is trying to decide if it will continue beyond this spring. More and more is looking like the league can not stay viable due to the amazing success of the GDA.

Yeah, hilarious. GDA in some areas is struggling to survive and the competition is a joke. Can you have a "national" league if some regions blow? Families know GDA isn't necessary to get recruited, so if their local ECNL club is decent and the player wants HS they aren't falling for the GDA sales pitch. USSF created a league that's too big for actual market demand. That resulted in poor quality which then results in further low demand.

Other than Weston, GDA in Florida is a joke.

Lets be real for a minute...

As long as there are such a large number of parents that are complete delusional retards and are willing to pay extra every year for an acronym they can tell other soccer parents makes their kid better than the others, both of these leagues will be just fine!

Success in youth soccer is all about the $$$ not about the kids or the sport. Pick any DOC, stand in front of their car at the fields (not bad right?)... look up the records of teams in the club(ehhh)... then look up at the fields to see how the kids are being trained(- :( -)... then ask if they are performing well enough to earn more than most people with master's degrees are making.

I generally don't hate on people for their income, but at a point the incompetence associated with that pay grade, especially here in FL is mind boggling.

I generally agree with what you're saying but there's no reason to use the "R word."

A lot of the talk in Houston last weekend was that the ECNL is getting close to throwing in the towel. The GDA is just too good and has too much talent and that makes the ECNL unneeded.

                GDA in most areas struggling.

ECNL and GDA both have good clubs. ECNL and GDA both have bad clubs. The best GDA and ECNL clubs are STILL the best clubs in the nation. Having the two leagues has hurt the best players because they don't face good teams each weekend. I don't think either of these leagues are going to fold anytime soon!

My kid said he may want to be a coach at the local select club after college instead of an engineer and get his masters and I told him that was a bad idea. I then learned the DOC of that club makes 225K a year and select coaches make around 150K a year coaching 3 or 4 teams. I told him he should go the soccer coach route.

Yup, and that's why they are expanding there regional league and acquiring new sponsors just so they can throw in the towel....Dumba*#

Weston plays in a poor conference vs. other average clubs. So Weston doing fine in a weak league isn't saying much. The same can be said for the ECNL clubs.

This message brought to you by your local GDA clubs, who are facing tryouts soon and no one is interested

Can't comment on girls side but know for sure boys ECNL is growing and no where near folding. Boys conferences will be growing again next year.
