Should Girls Teams Play against Boys Teams

    Interesting article:

Its in the nature of an athlete to seek competition. A true athlete seeks the best competition available. No different for girls/women.

...to be the best, you gotta beat the best! Wooooo! Ric Flair

As a parent of a daugher I agree with this. There are some girls that are physically strong and fast and have the capability to match up against some boys, but for the most part the girls just won't challenge the boys.

After U11/12 nothing really to be gained for boys teams.

I could not disagree more. Finding the right club, coach and trainers is what is paramount to development. Girls who grow up with big brothers tend to play a little more aggressive, however, they don't neccesarily play better. Soccer is a team sport and learning to play as a team player is far more important than adjusting to speed and aggression on the field. If a girl plays on a good club, they will find the challenging teams to help her develop.

Seems when you have aggressive girls they show well at tryouts, but not always in competition. Aggression and skills are two entirely different topics, but if you get both in a female player? You've got something.

a decent ( not great) u-16 boys team will destroy the women's national team every time they play -that's a fact-

Only for those who choose to read something negative that most of us don't see there. That poster was absolutley correct. At younger ages the physical difference is not so big. Once the boys start growing and become more muscular the girls simply can't compare. It has nothing more to do with it than that.

Even at the younger ages, the girls need to be at least 2 years older than the boys in order for the game to be somewhat competitive.

No. You frequently see a u12 or so girl who has had an early growth spurt playing on a boys team. Everyone is convince she is the next Abby becuz she grew early.
