EL is just trying to figure out how they can merge and get rid of BK at the same time.

That's because it is a DONE DEAL...the vote is simply a formality!!! It's already been decided upon. Have fun wasting your hard earned money at Clearwater.

Who said anything about Clearwater, Mrs. Palm Harbor. There other clubs nearby just as good as your club and with much better playing conditions and QUALITY staff.

You sound kind of defensive and frustrated. Bad day?

I would agree that neither facility is very good with PH in terrible shape. The softball field needs to go. It gets very little use. As far as BK have not noticed any of the issues that have been spoken of. He has had very little interaction with our team directly. Our team has trainers each night usually 2 plus coaches. From what I have read on this site it appears that there isn't a good DOC around.

Your last sentence says it all..."From what I have read on this site"...do not pay attention to the 3 or 4 people that want him to go...their kid probably didn't make the A team where they KNEW little Johnny was the best player at the club, so they want him removed.

These are but several of the problems that I would like to see addressed before the vote, and resolution on some would free up funds for others. First off, there need to be more fields and they need to be in better shape. Merging and enlarging these clubs is pointless if there is nowhere to play or practice. That means that the new merged board would need to show a plan to acquire and improve fields. That takes cash and community cooperation at the city or county level. Having 2 DOCs and paying for some stupid alliance to the work of a DOC is a waste of what 50K-60K a year that could go a long way towards getting teams of EVERY level a reasonably nice place to practice with light and facilities.

Secondly, there needs to be a clear development plan for soccer and for business/adminiatration. One is the responsibility of the DOC and one is the responsibility of the BOD and their committees. Clubs in this area have a bad habit of encouraging DOCs to augment income through club business. It becomes a conflict of interest. The DOC needs to place club soccer development first, personal gain second. If a DOC is here to get rich, they are unrealistic and will be a poor fit. A DOC is club employee, not a board memeber. They are hired to develop SOCCER. That means work with coaches, teams, players, and the soccer program. That being said, the DOC is the "team captain" and needs to exhibit qualities that inspire trust and confidence in his ability and be a leader among the coaches. The members value of his judgement and hard work is a driving factor in the success of the program and the growth of the club. Of the two candidates for the job, one clearly exhibits preferable skills and qualities. To retain the lesser talent would be wasteful and would deprive the captain of the opportunity to select his staff, which is his right.

Thirdly, The unified board needs to be good at MANAGING and DELEGATING. This means create clearly outlined, assigned responsibilities for responsible volunteers and monitor progress while charting the future. Be good stewards of resources that belong to your membership. Have the good grace to not favor or CREATE THE APPEARANCE of FAVORING a board member's child's team. The appearance of openness and fairnness is important because it binds members to the club and allows them to invest in the future. The board also needs to invest time in exploring in-kind volunter potential from their families. If they own a print shop, a catering company, a sign business, etc., is their highest and best use lining fields or selling popcorn? No. The board needs to do their homework and maximize their human resources. They also need to INVITE and ENCOURAGE to membership to attend meetings and keep abreast of happenings by putting out timely and clear communications with substance (No more bs, say-nothing press releases. Communicate!).

These soccer clubs are meant to be cooperative efforts by adults with the same goals in mind. What we have seen in the past few months is a bizarre divergance of personal interests that will, in the end, destroy two clubs with long histories. While the boards are surging ahead, members of long standing from both clubs seem confused, concerned, unhappy and UNWILLING. It would be wonderful to see a unified, clearly worded statement by both boards before the merger vote that states the goals of the new organization a a clear pathway on how to achieve these goals (with specific details). The board members should include a pledge to serve the needs and desire of both former entities with fairness, consideration, and cooperation. It would be great if they signed it. It would serve to reassure the two existing club bodies, inspire confidence in the plan, and map the future. It would also help measure progress down the road. If there has not been enough study to create a clear plan, then maybe the vote is premature and the opportunity should not be wasted until there has been enough study and communication. No one should find fault in a BOD that is thoughful, careful, and wise, even if it means slower progression.

A merger should be like a marriage. There should not be factions, winners, or losers. The entire body of both merging organizations should embrace the new identity with a renewed sense of purpose and a bright outlook for the future. Without their support, a merger is a merger in name only and will ultimately detroy both clubs. The boards and the soccer staff should not be afraid to talk about change and to EXECUTE CHANGES. Change is the point of the merger. What they need to do is communicate the path for achieveing these changes so the merger will inspire hope and excitement instead od fear and dread.

                Good Luck.

This would make things organized, understandable, and logical. *** kind of people do think you are dealing with at these clubs? Have you met the boards of directors? The other day I was at the PH fields and one of them was obviously trying to avoid a parent by pretending to talk on the phone- until it rang! They will need more than luck- they need time travel, brain augmentation, and self control. They have an equal chance of acquiring any of them in time.

I would feel more welcome if you could spell harbor. Nice emoticon too. Does your wife know she is in a lesbian marriage with an illiterate liar?

We are watching at East Lake. We are just too terrified to write anything. I think PH parents are lunatics and so is the board. Keep your coaching director away from our teams and our fields until IT'S A DONE DEAL.

I think East Lake and Tarpon made more sense. Tarpon has 2 field locations in awesome shape and strong trainers as well, and their closer to each other. There parents aren't crazy either like PH. Oh well I guess the Egos in charge couldn't get along or something like that.

Well, it's crunch time folks. Despite claims that only three people read this thread, we've got 20K+ hits as of today. Look at the date of the first post and do the math.

The merger vote is next week, no electronic voting process has been released, and no new statements from either club as of today.

It appears no one is backing down from the most premature merger vote in Florida soccer history. If it doesn't pass, both boards will now look like complete fools. If it does pass, the ensuing chaos and destruction will bleed both clubs dry for teams and players.

Luckily, Talking Soccer has made a bucket off the pay per click advertising. And they all lived happily ever after...

No, no...no one claims only 3 people READ this thread, the claim is it's the same 2 or 3 negative people that do all of the negative posting. Many people read this thread because it's the funniest one on here! You guys are so frickin' hilarious with all the stuff you make up. My favorite is when someone comes on with something positive, which happens quite a bit, then whichever one of the 2 or 3 of you comes back blasting that person for being positive and then adds 'Thanks BK'. Priceless!

Clearwater has vetoed CDL for Palm Harbor as a small club. They don't want this to happen. East Lake will probably receive the same veto. Not that CDL is anything better, it's the recognition that will never happen if things stay the same. Cast your votes. Think small, stay small or believe that now is the time for change. The choice is yours.
