Goes both ways. There are kids playing for Revs this year that spent the vast majority of their youth careers at the club level.

What the hell is your point? Club soccer is a huge business. They are not recruiting from town travel programs. Don't get what you're saying.

So, someone wanted to discuss U17 soccer, and a person chimed in that no cares because the ID process is done. This suggests that the only point of playing youth soccer is to make a Div 1 college team. Sad to think that there are parents out there who evaluate themselves, their children, and other soccer parents and children based on that criteria. Their next judgment will be on how GOOD the Div 1 school is, and then about how much playing time the person gets, etc.

U17 is filled with some of the most passionate players -- many who play because they love the game, not because they are chasing a scholarship.

Having played D1 sports, I can assure you that there are many downsides, such as being told what classes you can't take, worrying about injury, etc. And, when done, its the friends and the fun you had off the field that matter far more than whether you came in 3rd or fourth in the league sophomore year.

Thank you. So very true. One other point that I would make here. There is often a lot of talk about kids on playing for their high school teams. Often saying things like it's crap soccer, coaching is terrible, blah, blah, blah. Some of that can be true, but no matter how good your kid is, I don't think there is anything like the experience of playing for your school. One of my kids was fortunate enough to play for a Div 1 high school team that won the state championship and also plays for one of the top club teams in the state. With some of the great tournament wins and hard fought wins at the club level, there is nothing like riding home in the bus with the police escort after a state (or even divisional) championship win. An experience that they will never get on any club team and an experience that they will never forget. Just my two cents, but as parents please remember that 99% of our kids will ever play beyond college. If they love the game, let them play the game.

What a great post. And with this post this thread can end. Never been one for the boys in this age group from when they were U13 and don't need it now.

Look at recent games. Have they lost something?
