If your 8th grader had a chance to play for a top 10 prep school in the fall (Groton, Andover, Milton or similar), or a mediocre DAP team, which would you choose?

OP here. He is 5'8", average build.
We are part of the struggling middle class, & couldn't afford prep school without generous FA, but he wants to attend a top academic college and play soccer. What we hear from friends who do DAP, is that DAP has the market pretty much cornered, when it comes to putting kids on good college teams.

Depends if your son is thinking D1 or D3. If he is not playing for the Revs, D3 is probably the path he is one. The ISL and playing on a VERY good non-DAP club team will do better than DAP on getting a good player, one that cannot make the revs, into a top academic D3 college and possibly an Ivy. More importantly if your son is looking at one of the demanding academic ISL schools (Milton, BB&N, Nobles) it will absolutely help in the preparation for a top academic college. If the opportunity is offered to him and your family to attend an ISL school take it.

Also unless he isexceltional, seldom will an ISL give a full ride-no matther what the need- they have to divy up the available aid and there are many who are in need. He'll need to fork up some dough- usually at least $10-20K
