USSF has decreed that ALL clubs fielding GDA team must place their top, "A", team in the GDA league at each cooresponding age group. The ECNL will be the B league just like the USYSA "national league" now contains many ECNL B teams.

That's all well and good, but they still don't have the power to determine who is on those "A" and "B" teams. Although I would suspect that the pressure will be immense for a top talent who doesn't want to do GDA for whatever reason.

When US Soccer doesn't allow the top ECNL players into US National Team camps then those players will be forced into the Academy.

Hmmm, you honestly believe that the National Team would turn away a player that is talented enough to be considered simply because they played in the ECNL and not the Academy?

          That is pretty funny.

That is exactly how it will work and the ECNL knows it. Affects few players in actuality but many more in their minds.

And the rest who see it for the blackmail that it is will elect to stay in ECNL. They weren't NT material anyway so moving to GDA does little for them. GDA can't fill the rosters unless they get buy-in from more players like this. There just aren't enough NT potential or top D1 players to make it work in the size and structure that USSF designed. GDA will get players/bodies, but not nearly all the ones they want and need to make the league successful and enact the takeover of ECNL that they envisioned. We'll end up with two watered down leagues, and the players and US soccer none the better for it

Programs have been told they need to pick, either GDA or ECNL and they may not have both. Programs are not being told that they should use ECNL as the B-team, clubs are being told to pick ECNL or GDA.

Probably makes sense. How do you have two A teams?

Honestly, all it's going to take is one or two National Team Camps filled with only GDA players, the camps closest to tryout season in spring 2018, to send those very, very top ECNL players seeking out the nearest GDA. After those top girls leave the ECNL, many of the girls who don't even have NT aspirations will eventually follow suit. They'll feel the difference, and parents will see the difference, of the level of play once those very top players leave, and those vacant roster spots are filled in by much lower quality players in comparison. After that first wave goes the college scouts, stopping by GDA events first, and that's when ECNL becomes the new NPL. All very simple, just give it about two years.

ECNL has the bulk of best players and being called to NT because with its inception all major clubs left USYS. Now it will be no different and USSF will rule. It is the end of US club and USYS war or the end of both identities. They may still exist but not to compete against USSF.

What about the phenom from East Bum F.. who lives in an area ignored by GDAP/USSF and who is playing NPL/ODP or perhaps, gasp, ECNL? You really think she is going to be ignored?

Completely agree with all of the above.

The USSF is going to dig in and make a stand. There may be a chance that a player say from Omaha NB new ECNL club gets invited to a camp or two because there is no GDA nearby, but no kid from FC Boston will get a nod over a Breakers or Stars DA kid that is for sure.

What will be interesting to see is if JD can still keep out the Breakers (ah hem NEFC) kids like he has done for so long.
