We get it.

All this talk on this other threads about GDAP and Ellis and the state of the game reiterates the fundamental issue. It's all about wins and losses to so many. As a coach the easiest thing they can do is go for the win - make sure your best players get the bulk of the time and get the ball to the best player and let them do their thing. That's how we got to place we are.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;1966382]Exactly right. The emphasis on winning is a stench that never fades. Look at this thread as exhibit A. These are showcase games with newly assembled teams and the posters are going nuts as if it really matters. Virtually all of the top players on both teams are committed, and good coaches will play those uncommitted ones a lot more than usual.

One thing about wins and losses, is that it provides some insight that uninitiated parents use to gauge a team's relative strength. Is it unreasonable for a parent to assume a winning team has better players?

The winning v. Development argument is so overanalyzed. They are not mutually exclusive. And GDAP is going to be a flop. Look at ussf's track record and tell me when they've ever done anything right. Couple that with ecnl's proven success with getting girls into college programs. Why would anyone switch? The only places I can see GDAP succeeding is in geographically desirable areas where there isn't already an ECNL club.

Very good point. Funny how the teams with better players seem to win more than they lose.
