Why don't club coaches want to coach High School?

There is such an obvious difference in the quality level of club coaches over high school coaches. Why can't high schools hire more club coaches so there's not so much of a drop off in training when players take off for high school? Which clubs prepare their kids best for the HS break and are there clubs that actually hire HS coaches in their club or are they all bad? This is just as much of a club coaching question than it is high school so moderators please keep this thread here. Nobody reads the HS thread! Thank you!

my understanding is hs coaching jobs go to currently employed staff first. i believe that this is a school district policy.

Completely false. Nonsense. HIgh schools can hire whoever they want. Most club coaches don't want to deal with HS because the teams are usually really weak and they play have their games to mercy rules. High school soccer is basically a joke and most top coaches don't want any part of it. Most HS coaches coach B teams at club if they are good enough to coach club at all and most of the top HS coaches have been club coaches at one time and now they have a real job and don't have time year round to coach club. But there are some very good HS coaches out there just not many.

i posted the prior reply so looked it up, at least osceola county requires jobs to be offered to current instructional personnel

        Additional Information
Coaching/Supplemental Positions: Instructional personnel throughout the District should be offered coaching or supplemental positions prior to any other consideration. All employees considered for these positions are required to hold a valid Part-Time, Temporary or Professional Educator's Certificate (FS 341-15).

It's somewhere in between the above two posts as it varies by district. Also depends on who the AD is - some actually care about soccer and try to make good hires; others could care less and will take whoever is willing to do the job for the least amount of money and least headaches. How involved parents are can make a difference too - pushy parents push the AD and whoever is coaching, not always with the best intentions of course. Finally, it pays very little. I mean VERY little. A coach has to decide if it's worth his/her time and aggravation.

There are plenty of good HS coaches who are club coaches or former club coaches but there are few good HS coaches who aren't or haven't been club coaches and that's a fact. Coaching HS soccer is the lowest level coaching there is. In many cases it's just teachers that need a few extra dollars and the AD is lazy so they give them the job. Do your research to find out

The real reason is that HS soccer is FREE to all so there is no incentive for any money hungry coach to get involved in it. Imagine if instead of all of the $$$$ club and DA scams we now have, kids only had HS to play in like the other 3 major sports in this country. School Boards would have to approve more money and qualified coaches would come to HS.

Until soccer is made available to all and not just rich, white, suburban kids, the sport in the US is going nowhere. If US Soccer was really serious about improving soccer they would start funding middle and high school soccer programs.

Your post is totally contradictory. You correctly state that high school soccer is free, then go on to whine about soccer only being available to rich white suburban kids. Did you forget to take your meds this morning? If you believe that only club soccer is real soccer, still, there are plenty of pickup and recreational leagues out there that dont cost much. Players that want to play have many opportunities to do so. Maybe the point of your post is a racist one - in that the only truly exceptional athletes are blacks, and too poor to participate in any organized soccer at all? Doesnt seem to prevent them from flooding the NBA and NFL with draft picks each year.

You clearly have no clue as to what is happening to our country soccer wise. Yes, HS soccer is FREE but rich white parents think that their privileged little Messis are better off paying $1500 or more a season, plus travel, to feel like they are better than the rest. Look at the parking lots at most clubs in this country and you will see millions of dollars worth in cars alone.

Players that want to play COMPETITIVE soccer DO NOT have many options if they lack money or transportation. HS gives them the only option but as you stated, it is a weak place to play so they are stuck with mediocre coaches and competition.

Truly exceptional athletes come in all sizes, shapes and colors but, as a rule, athletes will gravitate to sports that their families can afford and it is easy to get to.

US Youth soccer is all about the money.
