I think people move to location close if the kid is really good enough. Not sure if GDA would be causing people to do that right away if ever.

I don't think looking at the team already in ECNL with below .500 records as bad development is right. There are a lot of good players on these teams, but there are holes on those teams. I think everyone sees the bad record and thinks every player on the team is bad and are not improving. Clubs need to do better to draw to fill the holes. Most coaches are teaching the samethings. If they don't let their personalities get in the way.

Not every kid who is playing ECNL started or played their entire club soccer at that ECNL club. Kids gravitate to programs more than the club.
It College. Where are the college coaches going more to watch top players. Right now ECNL. If Div 1 schools are pulling more of their players from GDA, that will make the difference. GDA will push for their players to continue to develop in college, they will not ignore that part. They will need to offer a avenue to college. Otherwise there are nothing above ECNL and maybe below it. The key on that is the top national clubs in the US, where are there best player playing. The Blues in California. In both ECNL and GDA. Where are there best player going to play. That will be the key and if GDA takes the lead in that over ECNL that is how they really become the top league. The small chance to make the USWNT is not big enough to draw alone.

The GDA will likely be a better pathway to into the national team pools but that would not be the reason alone for kids to play there. However, the farther up a player goes in the process their chances of being seen and offered a spot on the more competitive college programs increases. Most kids don't go to ODP or the PDP etc thinking they will make the WNT but they do know it will enhance their soccer resume.

If making a more selective team like the GDA and what is has to offer will draw in the top players for the same reasons, at least those 16s and younger at first and then all later.

It is not like USSF expects many in the GDA to make it into the national team program but they want those that do to come through an environment that they think is better for their overall development.

You point out a significant issue - in some areas GDA will rule because truly top clubs are in the league, regardless of whether or not they have ECNL tams as well. Clubs in CA for example also have enormous talent pools. But in others areas some of the GDA clubs are OK, player pools aren't as big and local ECNL clubs still offer what most girls want - a path to college soccer. It doesn't matter to many players if it isn't top D1 or NT level because like you say players know they're not at that level. So ECNL will fill their needs quite nicely without having to give up HS soccer or other sports.

USSF assumed everyone will migrate over like they did with boys. But girls have the ECNL option that the boys did not. Nationally we'll have two watered down leagues with regional pockets that differ. Is that going to improve women's soccer?

If that is true, I can only assume it is because of travel logistics (they live too far from the club). If that is true, you are saying that their family will re-locate to be closer to a club with GDA?

And if that's true, would they really uproot their family to join one of the clubs on this list?
It rarely ever happens on the boys' side where there at least is a possibility of a professional career. I think parents of girls are more realistic and more focused on college. So with our massive geography we simply aren't going to capture all the talent. Broaden the coverage with more clubs then it waters things down even more. There just aren't that many "top" clubs and sufficient talent pools to justify that

All this list does is try to make the poster feel good that someone might say their club is best. Just tell us your club and we'll give you the "WOW your club really does develop the best players" answer.
Umm, doesn't GDA espouse those goals and didn't it make a list?
