What do we have to be bitter about? We wanted ECNL and got it, Got out of a merger that honestly benefited neither and now got GDA... but were bitter ???

I have many friends at TBU as does my son after all these years and I find it ridiculous that this is the thinking of the majority? we are the two biggest and honestly best in the area and farther, less nonsense and more respect is what we need to survive and thrive.

    Haters gonna hate !

Your son? This is about girl's DA and you are talking about how much your son likes his friends at TBU! We are talking about soccer, a girl's sport in the USA. Give that son of yours a football, baseball, or basketball and have him become a productive member of the male society in the US! Good gosh, next thing you know he will be selling flowers and looking at rainbows with his new friends!

Because the pattern of youth soccer history is pretty clear. What is declared the top league will get the top players. The trophy kid mentality will always win out
THIS!!! This is it in a nutshell, short and sweet. I am constantly amazed at parents of girls who drink the Koolaid to go play for more expensive clubs for . . . imagined glory? If you really want your kid to go to college, soccer is not the way. Go put a fraction of what you are spending on travel soccer into a prepaid college fund and your kid will actually have the opportunity to go to college.

Parents just like to be sweet talked into believing their little baby girl is some awesome, incredible, once in a lifetime player. Unfortunately, you can't protect girls from their parents or parents from themselves. The top girls will want to play GDA because while girls may be "social butterflies" they are also EXTREMELY competitive and petty. They don't want anyone saying that little suzie is better than they are because she plays GDA. That won't sit well with most competitive girls.

ECNL Betty will have the last laugh when she gets the same exact college scholarship as GDA Suzie, and spent way less and has fond memories of playing for her high school.

You keep telling yourself that. Maybe if you say it enough, you'll actually start to believe it!!!

You could say the same about the GDA evangelists

GDA will be another marketing job by top soccer cronies. The quicker you realize it is all about the money and control the easier it will be.

Same thing happened on boys side

There is a lot of truth to this but my daughter actually is an awesome, incredible, once in a lifetime player. No sweet talking required.

The ECNL Betties are the most worried. What if I could never make DA? What is my team splits up?

This is funny because the case for "ECNL Betty" having better memories and spending less is the same thing people were saying about not doing ECNL and staying with State Cup teams.

As for college opportunity, this was and it is still there for "StateCup/FSPL Jane." Her chances are better the more showcases her team plays in and that can drive the cost up to the ECNL/GDA level anyway.

The silliest thing is that college team's need players every year. They did before ECNL or GDA existed and they would if both went away.

Your awesome, incredible, once in a lifetime player daughter, would be fine no matter what. Mia Hamm made it to college and the National team in her era and she did it without no stinkin ECNL or GDA.

Yeah, but she did it playing in the highest league against the best possible competition available at the time. Whereas everyone not playing ECNL or GDA in another year will be the equivalent of playing at the YMCA back in Mia's day.

                            # that is the biggest DA lie the play the best possible competition. The logic of the statement does not work. How can you play the best competition if the system you play in is closed? If you do not play outside of your closed system you can not say you are the best.

The only thing academy can say they are the best at is marketing. Once you realize that things get easier.

I read all of this and think why are we adding another girls 'high level' league? How many girls are really qualified to play DA over ECNL- and honestly how many will get called up to the National Team- and if you do- what does that mean ? Securing a spot on a D1 college team? Like you could'nt have gotten that from ECNL or a great club? For most girls college is the end of the line?

Still no matter what was the highest league then or even 15 years ago, girls were able to get to a level they needed to without a super league. They played soccer in HS and other sports too.

So what do kids gain today? Sure they play against the best competition theoretically speaking, which makes them better but also it makes all the other girls playing better so comparatively they gain nothing as far as an advantage on the girls who played 15 or 20 years ago. They just have to commit more time, more money in the end. All so it easier for the big colleges to scout and find the best players. Many of these same coaches are connected or even are coaches at the club level.
