All depends on your definition of "quite a few". For boys, probably no more than a couple a year are getting full rides to top 30 schools.

Also depends on your definition of "hit it out of the park". Most would limit it to a close to a full ride at a top school. For others, any dollars at any school is enough.

The mother load is academic AND athletic money.

The mother lode of TS is finding posts that are total mother loads of it. You, my friend win today’s prize. For many top schools academic and athletic $ are not cumulative.

It's exercise alright. But it's piss poor soccer where the kid is not going to learn anything in most places or further enhance their skills. I'd rather have my kid join cross country and get fit that way.

Ok fine. Do that. For some kids it is school soccer or no soccer. Your player gets the advantage that you are able to buy better soccer lessons so good for your player. He or she is fortunate.

You are a prime example of what is wrong with US soccer. Elitism. If it isn't "the best" the rest shouldn't bother. You do you and protect your precious player from the ups and downs of HS soccer. He/she wouldn't be elected captain anyway or probably get many accolades. Kids don't elect diks and your kid isn't that special a player. You buy him/her a badge.

Why does your child need to enhace their skills? They all end up in the same over 30 co-ed league anyway.

Top soccer schools maybe. My kid isn't settling for a middling education to play "decent" soccer.

If you look at the numbers it is actually much easier to earn a D1 or D2 soccer scholarship than it is to get into Harvard. Same logic applies there. There are only roughly 1900 applicants admitted to Harvard a year but yet there are kids that know that they have what it takes to get in there as well as any of the other top schools. Whether it’s soccer or admissions there are huge cottage industries now pretending to be difference makers with fringe participants. In both cases the trick is knowing how good your kid is, not how good the tutoring is.

Well said but very obviously, some students can and do buy their way into Harvard and other elite institutions.

That’s just a myth. There are always bubble kids. Some get in some don’t. There are always reasons why those that get selected get selected. The bottom line though is there really all that much of a difference riding the pine at some D1 program or being somewhere in the pack of the class rank at Harvard?

Those are the same parents who are on here fretting about the DA all day long when their kid is really an Amherst level player. Those are the ones who then turn around and elevate the level of play in the NESCAC on to the same level as the Patriot League and the beatch about the coaches. Most people just laugh at those types.

You have a very skewed sense of the world.

No, actually, no one is laughing at other parents. This is because no one really cares what other families do, though they care a great deal about their own families.
