    MIAA Realignment 2017-2021 seasons

MIAA is in process of realigning teams which will be effective in the Fall of 2017 for soccer and other fall sports.

Every 4 years MIAA make changes based on projected enrollment numbers and other factors.

4 years ago they got rid of Division 2 in Central and Western Mass and moved teams to D3 or D4. In addition they moved teams up and down between Divisions in Eastern MA.

So are changes made solely by enrollment numbers??

No not just enrollment #’s are used; here is info from MIAA site

Enrollment numbers for this cycle are collected in October 2015

Fall Sports: › During the Spring of 2016 each Fall sport committee develops alignment modification to become effective in the Fall of 2017. The alignments are released in late Summer of 2016 ›

Schools and leagues are given the fall (e.g. including District Workshops) of 2016 to review and discuss these divisional alignments. ›

Here are current alignments thru next fall for all Dvisions
      http://miaa.net/gen/miaa_generated_b...occergirls.pdf

In addition to enrollment notice the 5 alignment codes on bottom of sheets:

Alignment Codes: (1) Vocational school placed down one or more divisions as determined by committee (2) Opted up (3) Co-op team (4) Placed due to level of play (5) Divisional alignment appeal granted (X) Coop Team Approval Expired

They should make 5 divisions ( football has 6 ) and bring back State Division 2. It would take a little work but could be done.

Football is already too watered down. Go back to 3 divisions and realign metrowest out of the south and into the central.

I agree they should move some teams to metro-west to central but keep 4 divisions and bring back State Div 2.

MIAA should look and see the teams they moved up and down and see what effect it had good or bad. Likely teams moved down from D1 to D2 are the better teams now in Div 2

Would like to know the rational for the schools being moved up or down?

enrollment primarily, but I think schools on the bubble can ask for special consideration. In D1 there are huge differentials in enrollments. All of the rest have very small differences. If they are going to keep 4, they really should make D2 go up into the 700 range rather than the mid 5's. For girls, they had Hingham at 555 in D2 and Milford with 552 in D1.

Where would the cut off be for D2 550 ?? On girls side Notre Dame Academy with 566 girls and Plymouth North 560 used to be D1 and should be back there if Milford with 552 is.

MIAA should do like they do in Lacrosse when they do the seedings, take into consideration strength of schedule, measure success vs other tournament teams and other factors.

MIAA does not care about soccer all they care about is football

You bring up a good point. If your numbers are correct, Plymouth North has an enrollment of 560 students (boys and girls) and NDA enrolls 566 (girls only). If girls comprise of 50% of PN's enrollment, then they really can only compose their teams from a far lower number of students (280). I don't see how they should be in the same division. You have to factor in the number of students eligible to play and most schools are comprised of boys and girls that play on their respective genders teams.

Plymouth North listed 560 girls and 524 Boys for a total of 1084 students. Notre Dame Academy and Plymouth North both belong in same Division which is Div 1 where they used to be.
