I wouldn't be so quick to criticize Amherst. They really outplayed us but in the craziness of soccer we took the game in pks. Happy my daughter is still playing! Go Brandeis!!

I watched a round-of-16 game yesterday. (I frequent this site because our kid was recruited by MIT; it is a guilty pleasure to return occasionally.) It was a hard-fought match, with plenty of drama. It came down to PKs. With our kid’s team facing elimination, the keeper made a fingertip save to keep the score at 3-3. Each keeper then saved the next shot she faced. Finally, on the seventh attempt, the shooter for our kid’s team scored, and her keeper again laid out and made a save. So, she saved three straight attempts and four overall. The other keeper save two out of seven, with another attempt hitting the post. We enjoyed watching immensely, even though our kid did not figure prominently in the game. None of the seniors will be playing organized soccer next year. (Given the next opponent, they are unlikely to be playing after today.) But they have enjoyed their experience. Not one member of the senior class left the team. Some of the seniors have great jobs lined up already, and three will be heading to graduate school, two for STEM PhDs and one for a DVM. All in all, it has been a really successful run. Was it worth it financially? It was for us.
