There are freakin too many GPS tournaments and after a while it gets boring and tired of playing the same GPS teams every tournaments.
What a whiner. Either GPS is too big, and has too many teams, in which case you wouldn't be playing the same one, or you are playing in the top brackets and you are playing the same GPS (top) team just as you would from every other local club
GPS know how to run tournaments. The Needham organization tries, but from what I have seen over the past 20 years, including pre-GPS partnership, they seem to fail to deliver. Needham should stick to town soccer teams.
While neither tournament is a real 'winner', I would say that GPS has won the battle of Memorial day tournaments. The GPS brackets are stronger and the fields are better. Although grass fields are nice...in nice weather and absence of rain, history has shown that if you plan to host a large tournament, no one wants to come up and play on **** grass fields....especially those at UMASS. Last year was enough evidence that UMASS grass fields are terrible when wet.
Do you think that GPS planned the attempted take over (now a split) a decade ago? Whose decision was it or Needham to partner with GPS?
The only way to salvage this one is for the Bolts to host an Academy or ECNL section to draw the coaches and teams away. If Needham is really serious about being something more than a town tournament, they will have to invest. GPS has big pockets and Needham has to find something novel to compete.
The alternative is to go back to what once was.....
PDA college showcase in NJ has cancelled all games today due to rain last night. Fields unplayable. Grass fields are a crapshoot no matter where you play.
