    Thorns

Some big moves today. Do we have a French national player headed to pdx soon?

Get ready for a rebuild where the Thorns don't sniff the playoffs for the next 3-4 years. Our forward line (Heath, Sinclair, Raso) will be the slowest in the league, and I love how the Thorns website is claiming that number 1 picks are franchise changers -- they just gave away the 2016 number 1 pick (Sonnett). Wilkinson has done to the Thorns what he did to the Timbers -- take a championship team and make it mediocre

We ain't getting Macario, who's a junior, or Smith, who's a sophomore, from Stanford in the draft. Neither are draft eligible:

This is the weakest draft class in years, so why did we give up Sonnett for a number one out of this class

Too bad. But glad we let our season tickets go.

I believe if a player decides to forego their college eligibility, they are draft eligible. You don't have to be a Senior in college, in order to be drafted.

Once USSF stops paying the club salaries of the national team players - which is what the players want, or so they say, as they want "parity" with the men - then the league will immediately fold - or the top salary will be less than $10K

Neither Macario or Smith have declared for the draft, and to do so they would have forego being able to graduate from college with a degree that will help them after their soccer careers end. That's a high price to pay for going pro one or two years earlier than usual.

Not my point. Just trying to articulate the fact that you don't have to be a senior, to be drafted, which either you or the above poster didn't apparently know.

Final list of draft eligible players just released, and there is no Macario or Smith -- they both chose to stay in college. So Thorns give gave away a #1 draftee in Sonnett (plus Foord and other draft picks) in order to pick a player tomorrow in the weakest draft in years. I predict whoever the Thorns select will not make the starting line up. Let the 2020 season of tanking begin

You are complaining about a sport that .000000014% of the people in our country watch. No one cares

Smith #1, and due to a trade, Morgan Weaver with #2. Pac12 ladies taken in the first four picks, and two wearing Thorns jerseys. Nice.

Two of the top forwards in the country. Love it! Anyone know why Smith decided to forgo her last year at Stanford?

She had two seasons left (she was a sophomore this past season). She's currently in the USWNT camp, so she is clearly headed for a career in soccer at this point. My 2 cents...
