    NEGDL travel

So this new league for U12 and U13 girls. I see 2 MA clubs, 1 NH club and 5 in NY/NJ/CT. Are MA and NH families really driving these distances for their 11 and 12 year old daughters to play soccer?! There's no other competition for them?

It’s pre-DA league for NEFC, SSS, etc. Those kids will be traveling a lot more when they step up to DA.

If you don't have a child who will be playing in this league, why are you concerned about the travel?

Because unlike most of the fools on this page who can't see beyond their own kid, I care about the sport. And it doesn't take a moron to see 11 year olds do NOT need to be traveling 4 hours for a game. There is certainly competition closer (they're not as special as you've been led to believe). I know I shouldn't be surprised there are fools out there who fell for this but I am.

Sad that 11 and 12 year olds are going to be traveling 8 or more hours round trip so mommy and daddy can brag about "elite" soccer. SMH.

Why do you care? You are frustrated because you didn’t make the team...let me feel sorry for you.
          Actually, I don’t care!

Although he may be a bit disingenuous in his veiled agenda, he does raise a fair point.

I forget the exact numbers but this issue reminds me of an analysis someone did a couple of years ago for the class of 2017 about the powerhouse nefc pride team that won the 2 maple state cups at 11 and 12 which showed that of the +/- 19 or 20 different players on those teams over the two years only 4 or 5 went on to play D1, including 1 who was cut after age 11 and 1 other player went D1 in a different sport. The rest just faded away over the years for a variety of reasons. For some reason that post has always stuck in the back of my head.

I think the point is, is that pre-puberty, no one really has a clue who will continue to develop.

On the other hand, if you are not the one investing the time or money, you really shouldn’t care, even if you do so because you “care about the game” , whatever that means. OP should understand there is something for everyone and that is great for the game.

Did YOU make the team? Or was it your daughter? Creepy helicopter parents, forgetting this is supposed to be about their daughter. Certainly explains why they found enough idiots willing to sign up for this. Daddy wants to brag.

Why are you so angry?? Why are you so worried about everyone’s daughter?? Do you realize that kids that play Rec think you’re nuts driving 1-2 hours away for a game every Sunday when you can just play in town? It’s all relative dude. Chill! Just worry about your kid. No need to worry about everyone else’s and the state of US soccer. Nobody likes you anyways.

Why don’t you worry about your own kid tying her shoes and learning to dribble through cones with one foot. No need to worry about everyone else.

I disagree. Great for certain club/league bottom line profits is not always great for the game.

As for what does that mean? Great for the game to me means maximizing the number of participants and have them playing at the best level for their soccer development. Great for clubs/leagues often means maximizing the transfer of cash from parents pockets to them.

Sounds like the OP hit a nerve with the "elite" 11 year old crowd! Lol!
