Third bracket teams at best at somewhat competitive tournaments and frequent users of trash recreational level tournaments run by clubs themselves and former Directors and Board Members. Why does the soccer in Southwest Florida suck so much when that area has produced professional baseball and football players?

parents believe what they want to believe in and perhaps don’t know better. Best players are leaving soccer for other sports with parents who do know better. -

There is no Academy in SW Florida which is part of the problem. If there were, there is definitely the talent but mediocre coaches are the norm. The same issue exists everywhere in the country.... maybe 30-50 quality players in S.Fla or maybe the state for an age group, those players are spread out among 10-12 clubs. Good luck with that development pool! And likely the best player or best potential, plays in local non-DA/non-ECNL club in Random City, FL due to choice, cost or some other limitation. Lower population in SW Florida means less in the way of player pool to pull from. Coaching isn't great in most places, but they have more kids to use. Gotta train the kids you have better and get more from less in order to play with clubs that have more and do less.Comment

4. Regardless of what folks might feel about the subject, USSF needs to take control of the sport and folks need to stop fighting it. This is a different argument than if USSF is doing a good job of it but as of now, it is too splintered with clubs, leagues and development.
All these reasons lead to poor soccer everywhere. It is just more glaringly obvious in Florida because the talent is here, just not the success.Comment

Florida has talent and top clubs in the state do well outside the state. USSF are a mess, but the USA on the men's side has closed the gap and now competes with top level nations. Opinion from experience
Yes at one time Sharks/Fire were winning major tournaments from Atlanta to Orlando to Miami and had a number one ranked team in USA. But those players were screwed as was the great team behind them and left when they saw the M&m kick out GS and made it about themselves and cronies and not about the kids.
