    Ncaa legislation

Has anyone heard any updates on the recruiting legislation changes for women's soccer?
When will they be announced? When will they go into effect? What are the changes?

The only things I've heard about is possibly changing the transfer rules but that's for all sports. It's pretty controversial especially for the big sports so nothing has been decided yet. LAX instituted a full on recruiting ban until junior year as an experiment but there's no verdict yet on that or if other sports will follow. It would be great if soccer adopted that rule. Softball made some changes to recruiting periods, much like women's soccer did adding the December dead period last year.

They are voting to move the official visit window to Junior year from Senior year and to not allow coaches to participate in non-school showcase events

I've heard that there will be no contact whatsoever with coaches/players and no more verbal commitments until junior year. Rules going into effect any day now..

That's what LAX adopted last year. It's what should happen but the shift will be seismic. I also wonder how many LAX coaches follow their new rules. People always find ways around the rules.

Never happen. Think about it, if coaches couldn't have any contact that would kill showcases and completely undermine "institutions" like the ECNL. Too much money involved for that to be seriously considered.

OMG what an idiot. There can't be contact at showcases anyway. My daughter was at the DA showcase in NC. Coaches can watch, but they cannot have contact with players at these events.

Not only is the last poster correct, but do you think the NCAA gives tow shi*ts about showcases and profits? This is driven by what college coaches want, or maybe don't want. I have to believe they would prefer more sanity in the process. Pushing recruiting to a more sane time line greatly improves the chances of players and coaches making better choices. Players are better developed/mature so it lowers the need to second guess where they are going developmentally. Student athletes are more mature and have a better sense of what they want. Grades and test scores are more clear cut.

So is it happening or not? And if so, when? Will they just drop a bomb and cut off everyone in the midst of negotiations? Or will they give an affective date?

                    http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/...ng-legislation

-For student-athletes in sports other than football and basketball, official visits now can begin Sept. 1 of a prospect’s junior year in high school instead of the first day of classes for senior year.

-athletics departments can’t participate in a recruit’s unofficial visit until Sept. 1 of the recruit’s junior year in high school, and recruiting conversations during a school’s camp or clinic can’t happen before Sept. 1 of the junior year. Both rules apply to all sports but football and basketball, which have their own rules.

This legislation is a good first step, but it still not as restrictive as lacrosse.

You can still circumvent the rules by using club coaches as the go-between. And athletes can still call coaches directly on the phone and discuss their commitment. You can also still verbally commit.

It starts next year, presumably fall 2018.

Official visits can take place a year earlier.

Only recruiting conversations are off limits six months from now.

                        It doesn't mention verbal commitments.

It agree with the OP that it seems awfully vague.

So in other words not much really changing; if anything with allowing the official visit one earlier it's even easier to commit earlier.

It sounds like a "tightening" that you can drive a 16 wheeler through.

No conversations during a camp or clinic before junior year is interesting - of course everyone will find ways around it
