BbA has been given a one time chance to drop DA and rejoin ECNL. They are holding a meeting with all teams to guage support before final decision.

Why would BBA leave? They have nowhere to go.

Why would they drop DA? They don't have ECNL.

ECNL would happily take them; it's a turf battle

I doubt it's true, but would be a great power move by ECNL. I honestly would like them back. Last year was a great year for soccer in this area with both stars and BBA making deep playoff runs in ECNL

It would be tempting for BBA/NEFC to take the offer to go back to ECNL (They could actually position themselves as the better ECNL option over the Stars and their now diluted two ECNL teams. However any FC is still tight with the DA on the boys side, and positioning themselves all the time to get full boys DA. Dropping GDA for ECNL now would kill those chances. Not happening.

Thus far, in its first year, GDA brings nothing to the table. When NEFC joined ECNL is brought better competition. Too bad the age change screwed up the mix of kids on some of the teams and detracted (to some degree) what the first year in the ECNL could have been. At this point, going back to the ECNL would be welcome.

More broadly, it sure looks like USSF is serving up the golden goose of youth soccer to become a mediocre foie gras. If they keep jerking players and their families around, eventually parents will realize that for most kids, club soccer is over-priced rec. The changes they've implemented are not likely to improve US competitiveness. Soccer is/was gaining traction in the US. If USSF does not get both the men's and women's game to consistently being in, and making it to, quarterfinals (at a minimum) US spectatorship will diminish.

If I could wave a magic wand, BBA would play ECNL and ECNL member clubs would revert back to school year birthdays. Fix the issues that USSF created and families will flock to those member clubs.

Why change year again? It really diesnt matter what the start and end months are if you have the same span between. Let me guess your august princess found it difficult to lose her age advantage?

Doesn't affect my August kid because I don't have one. However the late birth year kids do miss senior year when most of the team has graduated. With school year ALL kids get competitive teams until graduation. The way it is now a large group of kids miss fall of grade 8 and senior year. And travel needlessly to showcases when they have a year or two before recruitment is really a major concern. It makes no sense. I'm all for ECNL stepping in and bringing some sense back to youth soccer... not that I see that happening.

It was the dumbest move by the USSF to date, and that’s saying a lot.
