Club leaving Northeast GDA next year?

There is chatter that one of the 7 Northeast GDA clubs will not be returning to GDA next year. Supposedly it is not either of the 2 Long Island ones. Is it one of the MA ones?

With Empire United and LISC not really being able to attract GDA-level players, the league itself is lacking in depth in the Northeast.

Actually, there are 8 clubs in Northeast GDA right now:

    Boston Breakers Academy
    Empire United
    FC Fury NY
    FC Stars
    Long Island SC
    New York City FC
    Oakwood Soccer Club
    Sky Blue - NYSC

LISC should, but I keep hearing about Stars. Lots of rumors flying however. Sometimes TS gets it right, sometimes not.

Have a hard time believing Stars would be gone just for the fact that it wouldn't look good for US Soccer if one of your NT Staff coaches removes their club from the DA.

Of course USSF won't want any clubs to leave. - not only do they need a threshold number of clubs to make the league work but as you said it would look terrible if any clubs leave year 1. But unless there's a multi year commitment/no escape clauses there's little they could do to stop clubs from leaving. If it isn't working for a club they shouldn't be forced to stay.

There are MANY clubs leaving, and it's NOT the weaker clubs also not just Northeast

And there's rumors of more joining and there's ECNL rumors flying also. I'll believe it all when it's official. Both will have to make announcements soon as tryout/offer season is basically starting now. Families need to know what each club is doing next year.

With the folding of the NWSL Breakers...

There have been announcements in other regions already, i.e. in Mid-Atlantic, VDA left GDA and is joining ECNL.

So, is BBA not planning to return to GDA next year? Or is it Stars who will concentrate just on ECNL instead of trying to participate in the 2 leagues at the same time?

or are both clubs contemplating leaving GDA?

The NWSL Breakers drafted players and then folded. Be prepared for GDA tryouts to go on as planned, even if a team then drops out of GDA. None of this has ever been for the kids. Look out for your own and know the risks.

Agree. No way Stars is leaving. Already have committed kids for next season.

Think again. With the initial success of the boys ECNL, and the lack of interest in GDA by the majority of top players, many original ECNL clubs are feeling they don't need GDA. They don't make nearly the same money as they do with ECNL

Stars is definitely NOT leaving DA it's the only true pathway.

Who care what they call it as long as my kid doesn’t have to play HS ever again.

98% of players only care about a pathway to college. As long as another league offers a similar path DA will struggle. There isn't enough talent for both leagues.
