Odds on NEFC Tournament going forward

What is the likelihood the fields will be cleared in time to play this weekend? We are coming in from out of State and have no idea what the on the ground conditions are like in Mass and how many of these showcase games are played on turf as opposed to grass. Thanks.

Grass? Obviously for a tournament this time of year they are all on turf. I would expect they will be clearing the turf fields but that there might be schedule adjustments.

Games will be played on turf. If my memory serves me correctly, we had a snow storm last year before the tourney and they did a good job of clearing within a day or two. As the previous poster stated they may adjust some schedules, most likely push some of those Friday games into Saturday.

No reason to go all FDB on them. Sounds like they are not familiar with New England weather and conditions first hand, so they asked.

The fields last weekend for GPS March Madness games were fine and that storm came in on Thursday. My son played at Forekicks II on Friday evening with no problems.

That storm was nothing compared to this one (taking a break from plowing as I write). I'd guess they will get them cleared as money talks, but there is no warm, sunny weather coming in to melt anything residual so I'd guess the fields will be less than perfect and parents should plan on dealing with snow banks.

I would hope the organizers would be in constant communication with coaches, and consequently, traveling players.

3 years ago we had 3-4 feet of frozen snow accumulated over the course of the entire winter on those fields and amazingly they cleared the fields in time for the preseason tourneys. I was shocked that year so this storm is early enough that they should be able to clear the fresh snow easily. Will be cold though.

my D's team came up from CT for that one - it was amazing - the fields were clear but we were playing within a large snow fort (six foot snow walls around the field :)).

This will be our D's first really cold game. We purchased cold gear under armour which had a pretty good review. We plan on a skull cap & gloves as well. What are the thoughts about proper gear for games like these. Is the one layer under her uniform enough or should she double up?

My experience is that the players are fine, maybe just make sure she has a jacket on the sideline if she doesn't play the whole game. It's us parents who need double layers!

How many threads do you need for a low-level tournament? Why is NEFC pushing this so hard?

We played an early March game last year at the same fields and the temps were only in the low teens. Kids wore leggings, long sleeves, light gloves and hats or headbands. Mine told me she was “hot” after playing about 45 minutes of each of those two games.

They have 2+ days to dig out, forecast for the weekend dry and in the 40s.
