Does club soccer shy away from forming lasting teams?

Our ulittle daughter has played town/travel for 3 years & joined a club last summer. She's having a blast & advancing which is all we are looking for. We understand & appreciate the individual development she has been getting @club level & also understand that some teammates advance quicker/slower & move on or stay put. However, we are curious as to wether clubs, as a whole, tend to try & keep girls together as their team improves? For us a large part of the soccer experience is the social element. Our D is very fond of some of her teammates & we as parents are wondering if this social element tends to be MUCH greater @town level? Is it a real possibility that our D can have a whole new team next fall?

Your town organization was a club.

The club you might have joined could be a "premier" one. Many premier level clubs maintain a core group of 8 or so kids for a lot of years with other kids coming in and out of the team each season.

That said, the town stuff is always more social for everyone.

Players come and go for the most part, but unless they are bringing in new players that are better, for the most part things can stay the same. I'm personally on the fence about this, though. My D likes her teammates mostly and it's a tight knit group, but she only came into this team over the last year. She was with another club for the previous 5 years and it slowly eroded away.

I should add, this is no different from life. Players come and go; employees come and go. Learning to embrace the change and getting out of the comfort zone will enhance your full development.

Middle school sees a great deal of churn. Some kids lose interest or want to focus on other things, other sports. Some kids accelerate and want a bigger challenge and move up the ladder; others can't keep up and drop back or out altogether. Once you hit HS there tends to be more stability, partly because there are fewer options out there for HS kids. Up until then there's more teams and clubs for kids to move around. My HS senior has been with more or less the same team all four years. She went from a few years of town travel to one club for 2 years U11-U12, another for two U13-U14, and now this final (same club, higher team).

My daughter's team had a core group of 11 girls that stayed together over 4 years (same coach), which would have lasted if the birth year change hadn't happened. Typically you will see a few girls drop out/down and then a few that join the team. It definitely helps to have the core group stay together, and I saw that with the other teams within the club.

Replies are cool in general. My wife & I are also concerned about team development at this level. We are paying for better coaching than our town has to offer & we are happy for the most part. However, it seems there is very little team development regarding game play @D's club. Maybe we are impatient & want quicker game play improvement, we certainly are not coaches but it seems to us there are teachable moments to improve game play. We understand that there are times when lessons learned on their own tend to be remembered but some direction would help. We want it both, individual improvement & game play improvement. Practices tend to be group everyone at a few ages together & practice individual improvement vs little to no game play drills. Good/bad @U11 lower level?

You have to find coach with that coaching philosophy. That said - you will never find everything that you want - does not exist. Prioritize your goals and budget for you life with soccer and then choose best fit.

at U11 focus on individual improvement. Why are you focusing on game play? Are you interested in winning a cool trophy or another t-shirt. Plenty of time to focus on set plays and tactics, for now worry about first touch, foot skills and technique not wins and losses

Agreed. Concentration should be on skill level at this age. 12-13+ you bring in more tactics.

You may have your priorities mixed if you are worried about "game play" at U11

We do appreciate that coaches are focusing on individual development but wonder why there is very little game play focus. We realize skills needed 1st before anything else. But again, shouldn't there be some game play teaching? Isn't that part of soccer development too? Is this scenario familiar with most clubs at U11?

That happens sometimes. Players come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant.
