Is it okay to sing “Africa”at a HS soccer game?

    http://fox61.com/2017/11/22/official...f-soccer-game/

St. Joseph HS, a perennial girls soccer powerhouse in Connecticut, is the subject of a complaint made to the CT Interecholastic Athletic Conference after the St. Joseph student fan section sang “Africa”by Toto during a championship playoff game. The opposing team is from a city that has a 50% minority population. St. Joseph beat this team 5-0 and went on to win its third straight state championship, but could be stripped of its title if St. Joseph students engaged in racist behavior at one of the playoff games.

Isn’t “Africa” by Toto the unofficial anthem of the New England Revolution? Is there any controversy when Revs fans sing this song at Revs games?

No controversy. Revs fans of all colors like this song. Not sure why as it has nothing to do with soccer.

I'm pretty sure they were not thinking about anything other than "let's make the opposition feel unwelcome." Call it racism call it racial insensitivity, regardless it's not right. For those in the majority I know it's hard for you to see it's not right or insensitive check out the king Philip story, what do you call such behavior ?

It's irrelevant whether or not the song is racist. The question is were they singing it with racist intentions. A big question is do they sing it every every game or only this one.

I do not know the school or care about HS Soccer, but if they used this song to make an African American opposition feel uncomfortable then the principal of the school should end their season right now. No questions asked. This could be an excellent teaching moment. To do nothing would be a disaster for the school’s reputation.

Why punish the team for something the fans did?
                  That is 100% stupid

Exactly. The liberal mantra likes to punish those who have nothing to do with the actual issue at hand. It’s a critical component of their playbook.

If I was a player on the team I would have been ashamed to represent a school that would allow that to happen. It would be a relief to me if the season were stopped right now. Others might disagree, but this is way worse than what happened recently at Wheaton. FYI I am an independent and have never voted for a Democrat.

The article only talks about the song, which the NE Revs fan sing at every game. Would it be okay if the STJ students played this song at every game? Or, maybe the Revs Fanny’s should stop singing it, so high school students don’t think it is okay to sing it. Confusing...

The point is that the Catholic school singing the Africa song is lily-white, and the school with the minority players felt uncomfortable by it.

That's your take-home message. Wow. What is your kid was gay and 100 of an opposing team's fans chanted slurs at him for a whole game? Still just part of a liberal playbook? The level of ignorance expressed so easily is just astounding.
