    Incoming boys academy u-14 northeast(04s)

This will be the first age group with teams from alliances and the first players to have played in the u-12 academy. Does anyone have an idea of how next year might turn out?

The Revs will try to worm out of having a team because they can't afford to support their older teams appropriately.

Bolts will come out as the strongest team. I checked the game report and 4 Bolts 04s played today in 03 1-0 win. Two started, 1 played whole game, 1 off at half, 1 played 3/4 of game but subbed on, 1 played 20 min. Most composed and disciplined team. I am an academy parent and I have seen all the 04 academies play. If you ask me this team had more talent than the kids going to Revs.

I take it that you are one of the parents of these four kids....

Actually, there are middle of the pack in the U12 Northeast league. Valeo, GPS, and Seacoast are all better playing teams.

Since Valeo and GPS won't have an 04 team next year you probably shouldn't bring them into the discussion. The starting 11 for the Bolts 04 team next year will be the deepest of all the local academies.

Are you sure about that? I would think the Revs, who can skim the very top off of the Valeo, NEFC, & Bayside teams with their alliance, and will be able to grab some of the top GPS players who want to stay in the system (unless they choose Bolts, instead), should have a pretty deep team.

As I mentioned before, Bolts had one strong U12 team this year because they placed all the best players together on one of the rosters, whereas most of the other clubs mixed their two U12 rosters. Bolts will be playing teams next year who now have all their best on one team, along with the Revs having the best players from 3-4 of those teams that played U12 this year. The competition will be much tougher and the Bolts won't look as strong as they did this year.

However, the Bolts team will definitely have an advantage at beginning of the year compared to the Revs, since the players will have already had a full year together. Revs may take a while to get their smattering of top talent, who have been raised through different systems, to gel together. All teams will have to adjust to 11v11 and a bigger field, so that is also a factor, and some coaches may do a better job helping their players adjust to this (Bolts probably have the advantage there). I think, in the end, there will be some good competitive play by all teams next year, with lots of teams swapping wins and losses throughout the season, as is very common at these younger ages.

This is a pretty accurate post. This age group should be fun to watch going forward. I will say that it appears as if the Bolts are winning out vs. the Revs for players from this group. They have them locked and loaded. With a few tweaks from outside the 04 Bolts team could get even stronger. The point about familiarity and experience at 11v11 is a good one. The Bolts have this going for them over the alliance.

You have some points, however assuming the Revs have a system. As long as I been watching the Revs, they are a me-me system of player development. There are Lito structure there to organize and institute a discipline style of play. Yes they have the collection of talented players but never were able to develop them as demonstrated by their lack of home grown players. Not saying the rest of the northeast DA lack quality of coaches. GPS has a system but not sure they can implement it at the highest level. Sad but that is the state of youth soccer here in the northeast. Would it be nice if Liverpool FC has s relation with the Revs and be able to bring some of their expertise to help develop the next generation of players.

If the Bolts offered DA for free, would there be a compelling reason to join the Revs? Then again, that's a big if.

Oh yeah... forgot that the 04's have been playing baby soccer at the Academy level this year. Time to rip that binky out boys!

Many of the 04's that I know have been playing for an 03 club and on 7th and 8th grade "town" teams. Binky's were removed long ago, playing with and against much bigger, stronger and faster players.

No, not at all. Just making the point that some players have taken a different route. The Academies likely provide better technical and tactical training, but most of the kids are tiny. Everyone needs to adjust to playing against bigger, stronger, faster players at some point.

It's a funny age. Kids go from being able to run by or dribble by most of their 12 year old peers, then suddenly there is this 14 year old man child in the way. All of the things that worked, don't any longer. Can't run by the 6'-3" gazelle that's on defense...the whole game changes.
