    GDA and ECNL player pools

There has been lots of debate about GDA vs. ECNL and not trying to rehash that for the moment.

What I am curious about is now that tryouts are underway, is there a sense of where the strongest players are gravitating? Is that different across the ages? Are some of the strongest '03s and '04s adopting a wait and see attitude and sticking with ECNL?

How are clubs that have both (i.e. Stars) managing both internally? Is GDA the A team and ECNL the B team (in terms of player strength) or are they both positioned equally (and thus not as strong as they could be if players were actually on the same team)?

Depends on the age. Strongest 05's staying with ECNL so they can actually play next season. Mixed bag for 04's and older this season won't really be the bellwether.

What does that mean so they can play next year? So they can play HS? I would assume if they are the strongest on ECNL they would be the strongest on DA.

GDA is 2 age year bands, lower half will get "minimum required" time. ECNL has individual age years.

05s would be playing up in GDA since that starts at 04. ECNL has a dedicated 05 (U13) league next year. Northeast Girls pre-ECNL is now ECNL at U13 and available nationally.

How about for the actual 04s and 03s playing on age?

There are 4 GDA teams. The youngest 2 are single year teams. Only for U16/17 and U18/19 do they get combined. U14 ('04) and U15 ('03) are separate teams.

The 04 Breakers DA team will be there he strong, as most of their current U 13's are moving there plus picking up some studs from other clubs

The 04 Stars DA team will be much weaker, as most of their O for pool has stayed with the ECNL team

The 04 Stara ECNL team will be strong again too, as they are pretty much staying together from the current U13 roster

                Fixed the typos:

The 04 Breakers DA team will be very strong, as most of their current U13's are moving there plus they have picked up some studs from other clubs.

The 04 Stars DA team will be much weaker, as most of their U13 pre-ECNL team is staying with the ECNL team next year

The 04 Stars ECNL team will therefore be very strong, as they are pretty much staying together.

One more typo - replace 'studs from other clubs' with just 'players from other clubs'

How long will Stars be able to keep DA? Doesn't make sense to have a DA team, when you allow your best players to play ECNL. This is the problem with having both ECNL and DA.

Why force Stars or anyone else to have only DA versus ECNL. It is no different if you get rid of ECNL, then NPL takes it place in the hierarchy. If you daughter is not top three or four on her team for age group then I do not see why a parent would push DA. Yes, more training but no more attention from colleges for the next few years than ECNL will receive. If you are delusional and you think your kid is national team material than DA is the way to go. Because I am sure the scouting team just missed her in ECNL and moving to DA will make all the difference.

Stars are trying to double dip. US soccer is making it clear they want the best talent in DA. We will see what happens. If US didn't give ECNL folks one second of their time, I don't think they will will be reluctant about kicking stars out of DA program.

Allow? You really wrote that and that is indicative of the attitude that will cause this program to never reach its full capability. The players are not indentured servants and you do not own them. They are consumers, with choice, and more importantly, they are children. They and their families will not what is right for them, not you, not for the "program", but for them as they well should. This is girls soccer. Get over yourself already.

Neither USSF or ECNL wants clubs double dipping. USSF didn't have much choice because they needed big name clubs to build their credibility and market share. But long term it won't continue. Clubs will be forced to chose.

DA can be great if you're
                              - an NT prospect (and if your kid is you know it already)
                              - a top D1 prospect
                              - playing for free
                              - top starter

All the rest - which is the vast majority - DA may or may not be the best choice depending on club quality, ability to get PT, goals, interest in HS sports etc. Choice is good for the consumer. It won't help soccer much.
