    Tryout season is upon us

We have been loyal to our club for far to long and very unhappy for a long time. I know every club has flaws and we are at the point where the bad outweighs the good and thinking of just going with rec soccer and not taking it too seriously anymore. Anyone else tired of the BS?

Yes. Find a place where he or she has fun and don't expect too much from the experience.

Well, you could not have been too unhappy, you kept writing checks. No sympathy, if fact you're a fool.

If this is real, then I suggest you go with a small club. None of the BS and from what I have seen, good parents and kids.

Moved to a big club this year from a mom and pop MAPLE club due to birth year changes. Daughters old team dissolved and all girls have split off to 3 different bigger clubs and age group teams. IMO she is playing better, learning more, and developing more at the big club than she did before, but she just doesn't enjoy it as much because a lot of her friends aren't on the same team anymore. New teammates with new personalities. Her love of the game has dropped a notch or two. She went from an A team in MAPLE to a B team in NEP/NEC and the price has gone up substantially. I don't think it's worth it and would consider going back to smaller and more rec/town based. Curious to see what happens to MAPLE teams now that they are folding into NEP and USClub.

I've got two boys and two girls. While it's a stereotype that girls are more socially attached to teams than boys, I've found it to be very true. My boys moved around (in multiple sports) with nary a blink of an eyelash. My two Ds found switching or even thinking about switching much more difficult. My youngest is at that age where she needs to move up to a higher level (ECNL most likely, she has no interest in GDA). She knows it's the logical move to make to help her achieve her soccer and college soccer goals. But she's struggling with leaving her team of 3 years

We're having the opposite outcome to the same situation. Our daughter played for a local mom & pop club for years (from age 7 to 16). We stayed loyal and never left, even though she was frustrated often at the stagnant level of soccer being played by her friends around her, and the kick and run style taught by her coach. People who had left years before us, told us that she needed to get to a bigger and better club for her development and exposure. Wish we had listened, but we were afraid to pay more, travel more, and leave all of the friends she had made behind. In the end our hands were forced as her team fell apart with the birth of your change, and she had to go to another club anyway. She ended up on top regional team of a big club, playing at top level of of NEP. What a difference it has been. From the training quality, style of soccer, to the speed play, to everything. She is finally surrounded by players who are at her level and dedication. Not to mention the refreshing level professional communication (which was already frustratingly terrible at our old club). Not to mention, no more freaking fundraisers!!! Just wish we had not waited so long. I feel we did not do right by her keeping her put all those years.

We left the small local club awhile ago for a bigger regional team, while D's BFF stayed. They were both similar in terms of overall skills with some skill specific differences. Now as HS freshmen the parents deeply regret the decision. Sure she was the stud on the local team but our big HS is loaded with good club players. The local team broke up when they went into HS. If she ever makes varsity it will be as a senior.

                      True.

Didn't have a lot of other options that were not big clubs at tryout time last year. We went to guest practices and "clinics" from the 3 local big clubs and chose the one that best fit our needs. They were all comparable in price among each other.

The social thing for girls is absolutely true for the majority of girls in the U11-U13 5th - 7th grade school range in my experience. If you're going to switch, switch early.

MAPLE clubs are not folding into NEP. US Cub is where the leagues are affiliated for insurance, etc. MAPLE and NEP's relationship will be no different than today because of MAPLE moving to US Club.

I guarantee the person that posted this is not a parent at all, this is just another administrator of a club that is trying to push their agenda....look for a coach with great credentials that has a record of placing his/her players in HS and College...ask around, speak to other parents that have had the coach or have the coach currently, do some leg work....You want a coach that has a network with the college coaches and helps players reach out and write and invite them to tournaments and sends them to ID events.

In the western region, the only club that has a track record of doing that is Stars West.

-not a Stars parent, but a regretful one
