Old news.. Breakers chose DA a while a go.

The addition of the 2 Maryland teams kind of reduces the argument that there will be less travel with ECNL.

And now NEFC (oops, Breakers) trying to convince all their ECNL teams that DAP is better.... hey girls, give up HS soccer and get a spot on the national team! hear that's not going so well. I bet after a bunch of those girls go to Phoenix for the ECNL event in April, they'll realize it's a pretty good option.

Interesting. ECNL gas retained most clubs and added some good ones. Boys ECNL conference in Northeast is also strong. ECNL is stepping up to the plate it seems.

we all complain about the travel, but check out the map and be thankful we are not in northwest or midwest. with the additional clubs it seems most of the other areas have evolved to become more consolidated than i suspected was possible a few years back

Travel for GDA in some other regions is awful. We are lucky to be in a condensed area, be it ECNL or GDA.

I haven't been on recently, but figured I'd ask the obvious question. Why are the Breakers not keeping teams in both ECNL and GDA? I assume that is what the Stars are doing as well as PDA and other clubs. What are the Breakers thinking?

Because Breakers were not founding/charter members of ECNL, they were forced (by ECNL) to choose between ECNL and GDAP. They chose DA, thereby forfeiting their ECNL status after just this one season in partnership with NEFC.

Stars and other founding ECNL clubs that were accepted into GDAP were allowed by ECNL to retain their ECNL credentials while simultaneously launching their DA programs. What remains to be seen is whether those clubs will try to maintain both programs over the long haul, or whether they will eventually go one way or the other. For now, Stars are saying they intend to offer both. My sense of it is that the vast majority of current Stars ECNL players at the older age groups will likely choose to play out their club years in ECNL, while the younger ages will begin to divide themselves between ECNL and GDAP, depending on personal preferences and which path they believe will best deliver on their objectives.

Anyone with national team aspirations will be told to go to the DA. That will set the pecking order. The rest will migrate as soon as their college coaches tell them they want them training with the DA because of the intensity. Once committed, no one will care where they play their games. Most parents will pick the least expensive option they can.

That is the opposite of what NEFC told my son, and it worked out fine. DA did not take hold for years. Ask EK how important DA was initially to him.
