If tryouts are April 1, coaches have to be able to talk to players simultaneous with the start of tryouts. It makes no sense otherwise. Players will be offered roster spots and will be able to sign with new clubs. Clubs can start to talk to coaches from other clubs starting March 1.

Check the rules. Fysa committee forgot to address that detail

Check the FYSA website. The board changed the date from may 1 to march 1 at their January meeting. The change was emailed to the club leaders and posted on the website a few weeks ago.

The March 1st date applies to when a club may contact a coach that is affiliated with another club without first requiring permission from the coach current Club. Does not apply to contacting players.

Does that mean a club "can" contact a coach after March 1st w/o contacting his/her current club? With all the rules about poaching, you never know. This is as clear as mud.

I know parents that will go to a club based on who the coach is for a particular age group - if a club cannot advertise names it makes it harder to decide and even more than that to attend the tryouts without knowing names

A club can talk to any coach registered elsewhere after 3/1

Playing up guidelines for 2017/18 are up on front page of FYSA .
Chargers told our team today that our tryouts will be first week of April . Great timing smack in the middle of Presidents Cup and before State Cup has even started .

Usually a player is with their team until August 1 - did that also change?

Then how do you offer a roster spot to a player from another club when they come to your tryouts?

If tryouts are allowed than that means the club can talk to the player and make an offer! Read between the lines.

If this is true (April 1 tryouts being the new norm), it is going to make for some very uncomfortable situations at the end of each season (coach knows a player is moving to a rival club the next season but is still with his/her current team through State Cup and late season tournaments). Weird.

Having tryouts in May while other clubs have earlier tryouts due to DA or ECNL is also uncomfortable. Deal with the positive change. The real world is uncomfortable.

Tryouts should wait until it's all over. It ruins things for the kids. It really ruins the end of the season for them. Sure the world has uncomfortable situations, doesn't mean our kids should have their seasons ruined at the end after a year of being coached to think of themselves as a team. Adults are all talk and kids know it.
