I would like to know if anyone else has made the diction to Use Virtual school and what have you found to be the pros and cons?

A lot depends on the child and the parents. Soccer is already going to give them social interaction so that shouldn't be a concern. If the child is a self-motivated person and is comfortable working in that setting then it shouldn't really take away anything.

They can attuned any school function they want and I am sure most of these kids will not have an issue finding a date.

Too many parents getting caught up in the HYPE, as a teacher I will tell you virtual school will create an adult who is anti social and will not learn certain lessons that he could during school. You can tell me he has all these soccer friends however it's not the same. I don't recommend it. Remember one thing less then 1% of players play in college and only 3% of player playing DA make it in and through 4 years of college soccer.

Any parent considering enrolling their kid in FVS in order to be able to train for soccer should have their kids taken away from them.

What if it is the kid asking to do it?

They say virtual is identical to regular when applying? Not sure if true.

You should start teaching at FVS because you are clueless. Kids have more social interaction and have less chances of becoming introverted while home schooled. The children that choose to take FVS because of other activities also perform better than traditional school children on testing and in college because they have work ethic and are self motivated. unlike the children feeding at the troth and moving with the masses.

Why would you want someone who is "clueless" to start teaching at something you endorse?

In Florida, there is Florida Virtual School (referred to as FLVS) and there are county virtual schools. In Saint Johns (and in Duval, I think), the full-time virtual school is run by a company called K12. Before you enroll into a "virtual" school, you'll need to decide if you're going with the broader FLVS or the local K12.

Under FLVS, your child can largely go at their own pace, so long as the complete 3-4 assignments a week. If they want to complete a semester class in 8 weeks, they can. Everything is virtual. There are no books. They do not have to attend weekly or daily classes, however they are expected to work on "collaborations" where they attend a live session usually twice in a semester class. Each teacher requires the child to check in monthly with a phone call. Parents are required to connect with the teachers as well but they'll allow email and text in lieu. As a homeschool family, I felt like FLVS was too easy. Reviews online are mostly by kids so consider those with a grain of salt.

K12 is a more structured program that requires kids to attend designated weekly classes unless they test out with good grades. They will send you everything your child needs (except for a computer). They send every book and workbook necessary. I have no experience with K12 other than what I've heard from friends. They liked it... until they didn't like it and it was largely because it was still public school at home. If that doesn't bother you, it might be a fit.

As I mentioned, we've done FLVS in the past and teachers were hit or miss. My child enjoyed some classes and hated others. Overall, I didn't feel it was a great fit but we may use it here and there later on. If neither of those are a fit and traditional school is not an option, you can register with your county as a homeschooler and use another private virtual school however, you'll assume the cost of it.

This message brought to you by FVS. If your school system is so lousy that you feel the need to do it, either move or scrape the money together for private school. Your child will thank you, as a normal well adjusted adult
