Chapecoense: Football team's 'fairy tale' story ends in tragedy

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/29/footba...ash/index.html

The fairytale rise of Brazil's Chapecoense -- from small football club to national heroes -- has been cut tragically short, leaving the country mourning the loss of one its most endearing sports teams.

On Tuesday, the airplane carrying the Brazilian team to the biggest game in the club's history crashed in Rionegro, Colombia, killing 75 people.
Six people survived the crash and were taken to local hospitals, according to authorities.

It is scary because you think of the pro / college teams and the millions of soccer players driving or flying each weekend. It is hard when it is a whole team lost.

Three players are among the few who survived.

I think about it with HS teams. A family member in MA was on school team bus that had a bad crash. As we know from the crash last week many school buses have no seat belts and we don't hire the country's best a brightest as bus drivers.

Bigger picture is how does a club get over something that gut wrenching? Can you?

The goalies survived but 1 died later in the hospital, the other one had one of his legs amputated, at only 22 yrs old, that's a tuff one to swallow.

They talk about survivor's guilt in such events, but imagine not just surviving the crash but losing your entire "family" along with it.

talk about bad judgement, had the pilot ask for emergency landing vs priority landing those young souls would still be alive, the pilot didn't want to face monetary fines or revocation of his pilot's license due to his of miscalculation of fuel range.

I was told two players at Montverde are sons of the team's coach that died on the plane. Hits close to home.
