Setting the record straight on D3

There's been a lot of D3 chatter/bashing, so I thought it's time to clarify some things:

    1. There are no "commitments" in Jr year. Anyone saying this is either clueless or wanting for attention
    2. There is NO athletic scholarship money
    3. Top programs ARE competitive (some scrimmage low/mid D1 programs)
    4. Top programs take their training, playing very seriously (it's not simply play for fun)
    5. While not as intense as D1, there is an expectation of year round fitness/training
    6. Most programs allow flexibility for study abroad

It is NOT as competitive as D1, but if kids are looking for a more "balanced" experience (e.g. not be OWNED by soccer program) it's a good alternative.

For those of you inclined to bash as "pay for play", troll somewhere else.
(Don't forget many students may get need/merit money so that argument may be largely muted)

    Have at it...

Thanks for your support. Was hoping to provide some rationale dialogue, maybe that was simply wishful thinking.

Meh, I played D3 long ago. Frankly wasn't good enough to get any $$ to play at a D1 school. Probably could've made a couple, but PT would've been scarce.

Instead, I picked a college that fit my schooling desires, location, and social aspects. That I could play at a college and enjoy the camaraderie of teammates was a bonus. It kept up the love of the game I had, which I still play today.

Give it up Dad!! Go ask you club for your money back . They didn't do a good job of developing your kid and now you want to pump up D3.
In our the American sport system the 1 comes before the 2 and the 2 comes before the 3. 1 is for the best players , 2 is for the good players that were just missing something . The 3 is for those that were missing too much and no one cares about .

The OP was an attempt to put to bed some misconceptions about D3.

For the record, no one cares about D1, D2 either except the parents.

My house is the 3rd on the right in the gated community. You can drop the package off at the side door.

Unlike D1, the top D3 schools have very limited recruiting ability. Perhaps on or two players per year on a NESCAC got significant help with admissions. If you want that help with admissions, you better be on an ECNL team or its equivalent.

Love this one. So you spend $50G's plus only to get into a school that you basically have to be able to get into without soccer in order for soccer to be any assistance. And by the way your player has to be more than just an average ECNL player, they need at least All Region credentials and the crazy part is at that point why aren't they going after an Ivy?

Don't you need decent grades to get into an Ivy? That might be a reason why its not on everyone's college list.

Shhhhhh. The D3 crowd hates the Ivy comparison. Makes em uncomfortable. Now cue the chorus of how much better D3 is academically.

Most students will choose most Ivy schools over almost all D3 schools.

If you are a real stud, you may get into Ivy schools, but not get into certain D3 schools where academic allowances are not as easily made.
