    "Pre-Elite"

This is a term that at least one area club has chosen to use to describe or categorize its youth teams.

This is why rational and informed parents and coaches recognize that the pay-to-play system, to whatever extent succeeds in developing soccer players, significantly does so incidentally and in spite of itself as an economic enterprise.

My kid's team has that prefix and I think it's comical. And on top of that, they are U16.
Who are they fooling? They will never be elite, whatever that means.

I find the "elite" term with the ulittles far more comical.

This is elite marketing that you are talking about.

LL at select invented the "pre" term. Now they are using AP, Elite, Pre Elite, Premier and Club 😂 Whatever brings in the money I guess.

And the club your kid plays at uses what? A,B,C,D teams? Im sure there are a ton of parents lining up to pay $3k so their kid can play on the U12 C team. Premier II Metro-South on the other hand, thats a winner.

The day they started NEP is the root of the problem. So towns couldn't beat up on these so called elite teams.

I say teams should be named after the division of the league in which they play. NEFC U12B Premiership, SFC U12B Championship North, GPS Boston U12B League1, etc. (you could even abbreviate to make names shorter). This way, every team's level is known just by its name and you wouldn't have the embarrassing situation where one club's "Select" team is crushing another club's "Elite" team. If a team changes brackets fall to spring, change the name along with it (not to worry, team ID will remain the same, so no loss of GS points or game history!).

                    Sounds like a good idea

This ELITE thing has gotten insane around my area. With a name like ELITE you should be expected to win tournaments and league titles and not just be in them.

It's a term used to stroke the egos of the coaches at multiple clubs on the south shore.
