I'm completely objective on this because I really have no horse in the race and I'm sick of all the Sunrise/Weston back and forth.
I came up from Kendall for my daughter to try out for the 2003s. Still on the fence as to whether to make the financial commitment if my daughter gets selected but still wanted her to go and see what all the hype was about and also for her to see the talent that's out there in her age group.
We went to the early session (6 - 7:30) About 55 girls in the 2003s tried out. About another 30 in the 2004s, and another 30 in the 2000s age group. When our session was over, cars were lined up looking for parking. The turnout was, in my opinion, pretty good. I can't speak intelligently on the actual numbers for the other age groups that trained later, but based on the 3 age groups I saw, they do have enough to roster full teams.
For the 2003s:
The session started with the groups broken down into smaller groups doing some warmups, passing and moving, change of direction, light dynamic stretches for the first 20-30 minutes and then they had the girls play some small-sided 9v9 games (on a u11/u12 sized field). There were enough girls for 6 teams. They had 2 fields going at the same time for this age group. Games were about 15-20 minutes.
For the 2004s:
Same type of stretching but they played on a full size field 11v11.
For the 2000s:
Same as the 2003s, but with less teams.
All in all, I wasn't very impressed with the talent but perhaps I went there with higher expectations. The VAST majority of girls were from Davie and Weston, based on the club shirts they were wearing. To me, it looked like they tried to keep the Davie girls and the Weston girls together on their own teams. So basically you had a couple Weston teams, a couple Davie teams and then a couple teams made up of girls from other clubs.
Weather permitting, I would expect a similar turnout today. I don't see why any of the girls/parents would decide not to come back. If anything, its a free practice session and the girls get to play around a bit with very little coaching....kind of like playing a pickup game. I'm expecting for them to play on the big fields today, but we'll see what the plans are. Hope this helped.
