THE TRUTH about Yesterday ECNL at Weston

I'm completely objective on this because I really have no horse in the race and I'm sick of all the Sunrise/Weston back and forth.

I came up from Kendall for my daughter to try out for the 2003s. Still on the fence as to whether to make the financial commitment if my daughter gets selected but still wanted her to go and see what all the hype was about and also for her to see the talent that's out there in her age group.

We went to the early session (6 - 7:30) About 55 girls in the 2003s tried out. About another 30 in the 2004s, and another 30 in the 2000s age group. When our session was over, cars were lined up looking for parking. The turnout was, in my opinion, pretty good. I can't speak intelligently on the actual numbers for the other age groups that trained later, but based on the 3 age groups I saw, they do have enough to roster full teams.

    For the 2003s:

The session started with the groups broken down into smaller groups doing some warmups, passing and moving, change of direction, light dynamic stretches for the first 20-30 minutes and then they had the girls play some small-sided 9v9 games (on a u11/u12 sized field). There were enough girls for 6 teams. They had 2 fields going at the same time for this age group. Games were about 15-20 minutes.

    For the 2004s:

Same type of stretching but they played on a full size field 11v11.

    For the 2000s:

Same as the 2003s, but with less teams.

All in all, I wasn't very impressed with the talent but perhaps I went there with higher expectations. The VAST majority of girls were from Davie and Weston, based on the club shirts they were wearing. To me, it looked like they tried to keep the Davie girls and the Weston girls together on their own teams. So basically you had a couple Weston teams, a couple Davie teams and then a couple teams made up of girls from other clubs.

Weather permitting, I would expect a similar turnout today. I don't see why any of the girls/parents would decide not to come back. If anything, its a free practice session and the girls get to play around a bit with very little coaching....kind of like playing a pickup game. I'm expecting for them to play on the big fields today, but we'll see what the plans are. Hope this helped.

WOW. an unbiased and rational post.
    THANK YOU.

We will be at the BU ecnl tryouts next week with the full intention of making the move to there.

So they didn't make everyone where white or one color shirt. Sounds like Weston already has there teams pick. Even TBU was giving Red and white shirts out to try and give the appearance that no one was pre selected.

The email they sent didn't have instructions as to what color shirt to wear.

Most girls wore their club practice shirts. My daughter wore white, as did most of the non-Davie/non-Weston girls. It was funny, because the Davie and Weston teams didn't have to wear bibs/pinnies. The grays were on 1 team, the yellows on another and the whites and other colors on the other.

As we walked out, my daughter had the same impression, said she felt the teams were already selected but she had fun and wants to go back. Even if it's just to play for a bit with some different girls. I can't really say No to that.

Are we really talking about color of a shirt? Really? What about the players actually skill set? I wouldn't care if the player played in pajamas or shorts and a Nike sports bra. They play on the field tells the difference between lies and truth.

It will be absolutely laughable if the Weston ECNL teams are made up from mostly Davie and Weston players. Both clubs have underperformed in Florida over many years.

These teams will be so weak that it will make everybody break down and cry.

If it's one thing you can be assured of, it's that they definitely have not preselected teams. When you play ECNL, they know they have to select the absolute best players available to have any chance of being competitive. Your money is just as green coming from another club to cover the fees and expenses so there is no benefit to choosing weaker players. They may separate the Davie and Weston players out cause they already have full evaluations on them and likely don't need to watch them as closely. They may have their top 25 from that group and now looking to see how many outside players can replace those players. The higher the current talent is in house the lower the number of outside players they will select. Their weaker groups like the 04's will have lots of new selections. The better groups like the 02's will add fewer numbers.

My guess is they have selected the team other than a few spots held open for wildcard kids they did not recruit. The team is recruited and most selections made before tryouts.

Don't do it. We are running from there. The posts about BU are real and you will have no communication from anyone in the club. It has been our worst experience. There is only 1 person with soccer knowledge and connections, everyone else is a bozo.

Especially the one with mommy and daddy on the board.

I could say the same about our current club.
I assume MC is the "1 person"
