    State Cup -- Good Referee

Wow -- My kid played a State Cup game and we had one of best refs I've ever seen. I was starting to think the rules in soccer had changed based on our regular season NPL experience.

I was glad to see they haven't -- No shoving down players with 2 hands, no clearing out to head a ball -- No grabbing down players -- the kids were forced to PLAY SOCCER and it was a great game!

What did the ref get from opposing coach for enforcing rules? I heard 2nd hand (I did not hear) but an accusation along the lines that he was being "paid off" and one of the opposing Players at end of game reportedly called the ref a "F'in Retard, which he got a red card after game ended.

Lesson here -- Don't be afraid to play the game of soccer by the rules and don't whine if you lose -- there it is.

Altogether different experience. Luck of the draw I guess. Not enough qualified referees

Aside from the swipe I took at NEFC -- which was justified due to their conduct -- It really was a wonderfully officiated game. Sorry you didn't get a good ref.

To me it's amazing how many fouls in league play that ref looks other way as if "eh, whatever."

What it does is give a significant advantage to the more physical team who willing to foul more. That is why NEFC was so mad today because their "Foul to Win" approach wasn't allowed and it was straight-up soccer.

It sound like you watched a good game from a ref standpoint. Everything else is hearsay.

It's too bad the leagues could not agree to get along, when it comes to state cup. It would be nice to have a State Cup competition that is open to all teams in the state and see which team (regardless of league) comes out on top. The epic marketing battle between the various leagues does not benefit the players and their interests should be the primary concern.

Not enough and many of the HS aged refs are busy right now playing on their own teams as well as trying to fit in reffing gigs. Spring is very difficult. My teen ref is getting a million emails about tourneys coming up as well, but he has his own tourney Memorial day weekend. That is definitely going to be an issue for organizers

And this can unfortunately stunt their growth as a referee, because of course their playing career is more important. When I played I would never referee in tournaments I played in just because I didn't want to tire myself out or let myself get too busy. Definitely missed out on a good bit of money haha
