Required distance from sideline to my chair.

I was asked to move back a foot at this past weekend state cup game by the linesman. I refused and I took out my tape measure to demonstrate that I was more than far enough from the line, 1.5 yards to be exact. But he still was not satisfied and actually went as far as threatening to have me removed if I did not move. I relented and moved but I felt he was completely out of line.

You are exactly the reason nobody wants to become a referee...

If you truly cared about your kid's growth as a player, you should be back a good 10 or 20 feet from the action. Preferably there should be a screen between you (and all parents) and the game action. This is how it is done is Europe and it is the best for player development.

If you do not care about your kid's growth as a player, or maybe you vaguely care, but you more care about the game as some form of entertainment for you for which you pay. If this is your perspective, then your comment makes sense.

This second perspective is sadly why we will never - not in 40 years - not even if our best athletes enter the sport - compete with Europe. You should seek your entertainment elsewhere. Leave the game to your kids and their coaches.

If it was just about you getting hurt by sitting so close, I would be fine with that. However, it's the fact that one of our kids could get hurt by you sitting so close. Do you ever think of anyone other than yourself?

The required distance from sideline to your chair is however far the Referee or AR says. They are in charge, like it or not.

Wow, what a dumba.. , and this is how kids and refs get hurt, first of all the kids can hurt if you are sitting to close, and if you were in any other country you would have to sit even further back, and for sure not yell during the game. My son played Man City Academy team last year, and I talked to the parents and asked them how it was playing for the team and they told me a lot of information and what I found very interesting was that if they say anything negative during a game or yell to much , then they will be band from all games by the club, it is in their contract, so I say it should be like that hear.

I see pasion while others see douchery, the closer you are the better for the team so they can hear you tell them what to do

Yeah, we know. But we post because we do actually see things like this all the time. And it is part of what is pulling down US soccer. Parents really are a huge part of the problem. Combined with clubs that operate primarily for profit. So forgive us for taking the bait but it is all in the hope someone who is not a troll will read the comments and reconsider their behavior. Or maybe a club official will read and consider implementing new rules for parental behavior. You can always hope.

                            ALL clubs operate for profit.

Yes, a troll post but the sad thing is I can promise you that this argument has probably happened several times at games.
