Teen ref asks parents to stop verbal abuse

Here's another example even closer to home (was on the CT board). This ref spoke up and seems to have been fired as a result of a dbag coach. It's no wonder so many kids give it up. Who needs that garbage?

Parents or coaches who think it's ok to be verbally abusive to officials - no matter what the age - at a TEN YEAR old soccer game

          Just plain sad.

          Adults, and even parents.

          Shameful really.

I have kids that both play and ref and some of the stories they tell me about parents at the U little games are ridiculous. Some cases my kids have said that they missed a call, but in most cases it's just a dumb parent that doesn't know the rules of soccer. Getting upset with a professional ref at that older ages is one thing (still not ok, but..), but getting in the face of a teenager because he/she didn't make a call that favored your 9 yo is insane.

so much for "zero tolerance" yet again...every town and every has it in their by-laws..and rarely is it ever enforced. If you are willing to back up your referees, that says a lot unfortunately, especially if we are talking about inexperienced, young referees coaching U little's. Quite sad, but not surprising.

Why should our kids hard work and talent be nullified by a kid linesman who doesn't know what they are doing? Should be a minimum 18 years old. If they make a mistake they won't go crying to mommy!

You really are an idiot. Why not have professional refs for U10? Get a freakin grip.

You are the patent that the rest of us are embarrassed about.

Why should the teenage ref working to be a qualified 18 year old referee have to put up with you? Do us all , you kids, your other team parents, the coaches, and the referees , a huge favor and stop attending your child's games. I am showing you a red card for being an ignoramus and in violation of law 18 , common sense

                          A zzhole of the Week!

There so many things wrong with this post I don't even know where to start, but here's a start

                          1) there aren't enough adult refs. there aren't even enough for HS games, which, I think even you could agree are far more important than u11 travel games
                          2) adult refs become refs by training when they are teenagers. your average 27 year old won't suddenly decide that's a career path for them. huge numbers of 18-22 year olds are busy in college. money at the lower levels, where you get trained, isn't great but is very appealing to teens
                          3) anyone learning will make mistakes, even adults. even pros at the highest level make mistakes (see women's World Cup threads).
                          4) refs go through training first and then are supervised for a time being. there is a process for complaints if there's an issue, rather than trying to get someone fired
                          5) it is very rare that game is "ruined" because of a bad call. even if it were, again, humans make mistakes and part of good sportsmanship is accepting disappointments with grace.

clearly you are the type who harbors bitterness and anger when things don't go your way. hopefully your wife is teaching your children how to handle some of life's knocks

The person who made the post you are referring to is an obvious troll.

That being said anyone under 18 should not be allowed to ref. I have a kid who was concussed at U-10 due not in small part due to a teenage ref who did not have the maturity to keep the game safe and players under control.

Why? I'll tell you why. And I'll keep it simple, because you don't sound very bright:

                              1) there aren't enough adult refs to handle all the games that take place, and if there were, your kid's game would be getting an old semi-blind guy that can't move up and down the field

                              2) your kid doesn't really work hard. Your kid has no idea what working hard is like.

                              3) your kid doesn't have any real talent. Your kid might be the best player in the neighborhood right now, but your kid will most likely not be playing soccer any longer by age 14. If your kid is still playing soccer in high school, it will be Freshman, JV, JV, and then cut from Varsity as a senior.

                              4) that kid reffing your off-spring's soccer game knows the game much better than you, and can probably play the game better than your kid could ever dream of.

Now, shut up and drink your over-priced coffee.
