    Bay state league 2015

Whose the Bay State League Favorite? any Shock Teams making moves this year? anyone falling off Drastically?

I see the League playing out like this

    Carey
    1. Needham
    2. Framingham
    3. Weymouth
    4. Braintree
    5. Brookline
    6 Newton North

    Herget
    1. Wellesley
    2. Walpole
    3. Natick
    4. Norwood
    5. Milton
    6. Dedham

    Surprise team: Weymouth
    Disappointing team: Natick/Braintree

thoughts on the best league in the State?

For best league, consider Big Three (many out there want to leave it aside).

For Bay State (read the E.Mass boys thread), there seems to be two questions:
    1) are Needham and Framingham going to be head and shoulders above others at the top
    2) are any of the other teams really good

      1. Don't dismiss Wellesley. They might have one of the better forwards in their sophmore
      2. Needham has a solid core of players with several returning starters. However, graduation left a moderate sized void to fill. In addition, they start with a new coach after 40+ years. Although experienced, JO's ability to coach a varsity HS team is not known.
      3. Framingham has solid team with many returning from last year, but, year after year seem to find a way not to win the big game.

Why discount the other Baystate teams like Brookline?
Overall, this might be a weak year for Baystate, or at least a weak year compared to other years.

It looks like it could be a very interesting year with a New coach at Both Brookline and Needham. How that'll effect each team is obviously to be determined. Braintree and Weymouth Should both improve off of last years teams.

When was NN last Strong Run? I feel like its been at least 6-8 years since they've had a legit team to compete for a top 2 position in the Bay State League

6 years ago made final 4 in State Tourney. I think 2 or 3 from that team are playing D1 college soccer. Lost to a very good NB team.

Completely forgot about that team's Run. Wasn't that a dominant year for the Bay state league in the tournament with Weymouth Losing to NB. Framingham, brookline, and Braintree each making good runs as well?

Brookline deserves a discount until they show they can score, and win, in the league. Brookline had 8 league wins in 16 matches last year, scoring a mere 17 goals. We should hope both of those change, but no one has offered a reason to expect it, hence discounting them.

For Framingham, watch them play. Plenty skilled, but they don't apply their skills to getting open and passing. If they could adopt that attitude, they could be champs. Perhaps one of the challenges is that they could keep playing the way they have, and still win 12.

For Needham, the coach shouldn't be that big an issue. The players are there. The coach can only mess it up, which is a tough situation to step into.

What are your reasons that Braintree and Weymouth should be better?

Both Teams last season featured young teams majority of Sophomores and Juniors receiving alot of playing time and gaining experience. Weymouth brings back 9/11 starter and is strong up the middle. Also it seems like there could be a drop off in a few teams in the league. Needham wont be as dominant, Brookline seems to be similiar to last year if not down, Natick is down. There are more potential points on the board for teams like Weymouth/Braintree/Wellesley/Walpole.

Agree that Natick will be down. But even if Needham less dominant, they would still be heavily favored. Brookline may be off, but they really weren't that strong last year either. Having so many starters back for Weymouth is a plus, but their lone scoring threat is one of those who graduated. Net of all that, maybe they notch 2 points more than last year? And Braintree, who may have had more losses to graduation, did not look on the cusp of big things. They are often just under .500 in the league, so even a 2-win improvement makes them slightly better than .500. That's better than not improving, but not really a team to watch yet.

Valid points but I believe Brookline Swept both weymouth and Braintree last year and there should be potential for Weymouth especially to pick up 3/4 points against brookline. Braintree maybe pick up 2/4 against brookline. I think you see a 5-6 Point Improvement in League play for Weymouth and 3-4 Point improvement for Braintree. Yes its nothing to write home about but it'll help both teams when it comes to seeding and avoiding a Top team early in the tournament

Brookline swept Weymouth last year, but Braintree got 3/4 points v Brookline. So by your thinking, Weymouth should have a better 2015, but not Braintree.

Braintree was 6-6-4 in the league in 2014, 7-8-1 in both 2013 and 2012. And it seems like each year, there have been reasons offered that they would emerge. Good keeper, sophomore scoring leader returning, etc. But the facts show that it's not easy to emerge in this league. Maybe 1 of the 12 teams will improve their record by more than 4 points than the prior year. Hard to put money on Braintree being that team, without more of a reason. My pick is Framingham.
