01/02 Girls - How has your roster changed?

There seems to have been a great deal of upheaval in this age group due to mergers, new teams in NPL/ECNL, general unrest, etc.

We've heard rumors from outsiders but I'd like to hear from insiders, people in the club who actually know. Or just people are close enough to the situation to actually know.

No speculation please. Just what you actually know.

I can tell you that due to the merger between WFF and GTBFC and the formation of what was listed for tryouts as an NPL team that GTB did not have enough players to field a U14 girls team after tryouts ended. Some of those GTB girls are on the new NPL team which is playing in FPSL. That NPL team also inherited one or two players from FCT Rangers. Can't speak to the rest of that NPL roster. Rangers have a significantly different team, adding 8 players - 2 from GTB, 1 from Wesley Chapel and 1 that I am told has been playing for a boys team in Hernando.

Silly me. What was I thinking? I came on TS and asked for simply the facts as if I wasn't interested in opinions. For that, I apologize.

Along with what you know, feel free to share your thoughts on how the changes will make the team better or worse, if at all.

-GTB appears to be a goner
-New NPL/FPSL(GTB on the FPSL team list) will score more goals(compared to what GTB did). Don't know what they'll look like defensively. I heard their tryouts looked like it was nearly all mids and forwards, talented but not necessarily balanced. No idea what kind of goalkeeping they have.
-FCT will be similar to what it was when they had a full roster last year but with more depth and better coaching. They might actually be more balanced. Two quality keepers and the defense looks to be even better.

FCT picked up 8, 2 from GTB, 1 from WC, and 1 from Hernando. Where did the other 4 play last year?

Weston lost a lot of players to Boca (ECNL) and Davie. Davie should be quite strong while Weston will be much weaker.

1 played with GTB a year ago but took a year off. She looks really good from what I can see. I'd imagine she'll get significant minutes. Similar to player one, another is coming off a year off and played in Pasco somewhere. Major family events for both girls. Both very athletic and physical. Another played rec and at school. Rec coaches and a schoolmate on FCT told them they should be playing competitive. Number 4 played on the team previously but left for other pursuits. Decided soccer is where it's at so came back.

This is all what I've been able to glean from asking around.

I'm assuming since some girls left for Boca(ECNL) we're talking about Weston's pre-academy team. The one that is/was #3 in the State?

By last year's team providing the current ranking points, will any girls be on this team from last season that earned those points for the pre-academy team this season??? so that number does not reflect current team, and they'll be riding on their credit. Bravo 👏

Unless they were completely gutted I gotta think a team of that quality would still be pretty solid.

Speaking of their quality, how does a team that accomplished so much including runner-up at State Cup lose so many players? I get the appeal of ECNL but come on people!

They lose players due to the poor quality of the club

That's too bad. Of course, I'm sure the area clubs don't have a problem with it.

The ECNL is a very strong draw. Eventually most of the talent in that area will go to ECNL. Sunrise will hold on to competitive players they have but all the others will go ECNL or be left behind

Well, that's a pretty depressing outlook for youth soccer.

Davie will be mediocre due to the best Davie girls leaving. Don't know where they went but if Davie could have kept them it could have helped with the Weston girls not being able to retain the top 3 players to BU ECNL, which included the goalie.

Sunrise what age group. I thought this was an 01-02 thread cause Sunrise in that age group only kept a few players from the extraordinary team of a few years back I heard.

Cape Coral got better, picking up several players including San Carlos goalie.
