Saw the announcement today that OCSC is going to buy the land from the city and fully fund the entire stadium, including the increase of capacity of up to 28,000. 100% private funding is a nice change of pace when it comes to pro team stadiums. Good on 'em.

Ohhh you want to congratulate OC huh? what you just witnessed was a hostile take over, they say the chance for growth based on the early unexpected numbers, and pushed out the City. Dumb move City officials, now you will get NOTHING moving forward, sure you sold the land, but that was your long term cash cow..But I'm sure the city officials are privately involved in that move forward,,,KICKBACKS...can you say FIFA-OC...

I am all for private ownership of sports stadiums but did the county just shoot itself in the foot? Orlando City Stadium will be privately owned which means it will be run more efficiently than any government owned venue. OC will now hire an aggressive marketing team to sell the hell out of the venue. They will be looking for anything to put in that stadium from soccer, concerts to midget car racing, to your daughter quinsallera and your sons communion party or wedding. Anything to sell tickets and pay for that stadium. Other than probably the football games, that OC stadium will now be the venue of choice over the Citrus Bowl.

Sports franchises aren't charities. The public was mad about using taxpayer money for the stadium. Now the public is mad cause they aren't.. You're one of the haters. You go in the corner and pout with your friends. The other 30,000 are going to the game...Every week the game is televised, every week Orlando is getting publicity. That's good for all of us!

Spoke to a friend in the front office. Flavio was sick of the politics. First the government is going to fund, then the state backs out, then City and County start waffling. So he did what any Billionaire does, he picked up the tab and said it would be his way from now on.
Fans are supporting the team. Orlando already has great reviews across the league for their turnouts. That is all Flavio needed to see. He now knows this town will embrace soccer win, lose or draw. So why does he need the City of Orlando Venues running his show?
Why does he need Orlando Foodservice dictating what products they serve and getting in the way of their sponsorship deals? Jerry Jones and George Steinbrenner have created their own concessionaire - Legends. By cutting out the local government, you run the entire facility as a business with no pesky sunshine laws or bid contracts to slow down the process. This is good for everyone because the stadium will be built on time and the concessions will be more popular brands like Darden, Sonny's, Gators and other local restaurants.
It will also allow the team to keep 100% of the advertising and sponsorship revenue. Most public facilities get up to 10% of naming rights that a team sells. They can also veto sponsors the City may find objectionable like liquor, tobacco and pharmaceutical companies.
This is great news and I wish the team well. Orlando desperately needs another championship team. The Magic have shown they can't get back to the finals, the Preds have imploded several times and UCF just can't seem to get into a major conference no matter how good they play or how many times they move. Orlando City getting into the play-offs would be fantastic. Staying in the hunt every year would bring the kind of mania Tampa is experiencing with the Bolts right now.
