    Wellington Soccer Tryouts

    Wow. Just wow.
Don't know whether to be amazed or scared about this place. Ridiculous level of turnout (meaning very high). Parents are all operating under the assumption that the club is the best thing since sliced bread. Fees are astronomical. Team performance this past season was mediocre at best. They seem to be interested in having as many teams as they can at any age group (for those fees, I'm not surprised). Most parents think that their teams played the best level of competition available. Not sure how they are so sheltered in that regard. When your "A" teams are in silver divisions at Disney and don't make it out of group play?
The club does seem organized and their is definite structure. But, they don't compete at the higher levels, their teams regressed this past year, their fees are exhorbitant, and what is this Cogi stuff?

How are the Rising U16 Boys doing. Many were moving on to Boca and FC.

      Where else can you go?

Wellington is very organized and there's not a whole lot of options in the area. Its expensive though.

They definitely seem well-positioned to fill a void in the area, so from that standpoint I don't begrudge them. Just an odd environment, though. A definite disconnect in terms of competition level.

Convenience, stability, and decent training are likely the main reasons. Most parents make decisions based on those factors and the maniacs make decisions based on ranking and being at the most important tourneys on the planet BS.

I get that, but there seems to be a belief among many parents there that they are playing at the most important tourneys and against the best. That is what is slightly baffling. I'm not sure where that comes from. I think it is a great option for players who want to be at a competitive level, but aren't good enough for the top tier teams. There is nothing wrong with that and it is a perfect void to fill. Just an odd dynamic with some of the parents and how they view things. Not quite sure what to make of it.

Of course, could just chalk it up to "sports parents." We all are a bit whacked out in our perceptions in general........

What are these top tier teams that you're talking about?

When you get excited that your "A" team was competitive against Weston's "C" team and lost a close one, there is a disconnect. There seems to be this underlying assumption that they are playing at the highest level of comp in tourneys, even with the "B" teams. And I don't think the club is driving that. Just seems to exist with quite a few of the parents.

We are totally fine with the level of comp and get the reality of it. If the development happens with Cogi, they can progress up the ranks and play higher levels of comp. That's supposed to be the ultimate goal. Just seems as if the majority think they are already there.

Wellington has and always will be about the money. They will field as many teams as there are parents that are willing to pay. If you have the money you will be on a team regardless if you should be playing travel soccer or not. We were a part of the program in our early ages for several years and have seen it first hand.
Decent training - perhaps if you get the right coach. The DOC really doesn't monitor that much.

That does seem to be the case. The number of teams they field at the upper ages is more on average than other clubs. It does seem to correlate directly to the turnout rather than the level of skill.

It seems to me like you're just trying to stir the pot. If you are just trying to start s**t there's a whole thread already started here, feel free to just jump in.

                        Ok, thanks for the input.

I actually think the level of organization is top notch. They are what they are and they serve a purpose. Our child would not try out for the "top" teams because the skill set just isn't there. Wouldn't stand a chance. We will see how it goes.

Most kids dont have the skill set to play for the top tier teams. Find a team/coach that you feel will give your child the best training.

Wellington was once a good club. About three years ago it went down hill when PZ opened the gates. He got too greedy bringing in tons of Boynton players and coaches. He did not even have a enough field space. Just ask what parents think obout him. He is very untrustworthy. He pisses people off and they leave. How sad could it be the the club did not even have a U16 boys team last season. Then came a Cogi. How much money did he make from that. Cogi was going to make you a better player and even smarter in school. It was a complete failure. Just looks at result. You have once good A team not making it out of State a Cup Round One then they start playing in tournaments in B division (and they can't even make it out of group play).

What happens in the begin parents believe the BS that he gives out then they realize nothing will become of them if they stay so they leave.

That's an interesting perspective. I will say that some of the parents with disconnected expectations are relative newcomers. Maybe it just takes time for reality to set in.
