Tampa Bay Area 2015/16 U 17 Boys A Big Year

This is the biggest year for players who want to move to the next level. Both in academics and athletics what happens in a player’s junior year can determine where you are going to go after high school.

We are lucky in this area there are 4 teams that have good coaches and teams ranked high enough to get in top tournaments. There are 44 starting spots: 4 goalies and 40 field players available.

Team loyalties, playing with friends, playing close to home are nice ideas but they need to thrown out the window this year. If you are not one of current starting/full game players you need to really think about were you are going to play. Exposure and playing time are key elements when making the decision which team you select.

Depending on the team some starting spots are locked up others there is open competition. Two have new coaches. One has a 2nd year coach. One has a 4th year plus coach.

I would suggest as a player you look around contact the coaches about position, leagues, Tournaments the team will play in. Ask the coach how they can help you gain exposure to college coaches?

It is a very important year. This is the year you have to get a little selfish and play at the club that provides the best chance of you gaining exposure and playing time.

It does not do any good if the college coach comes to your game and you ride the pine. Each team has its pros and cons.

    Choose wisely.

From a coaching standpoint DV at GTBFC is a former professional and knows what he is doing. The guy at TBU is also the head coach at Eckerd and an A licensed trainer.

Does the thread starter have an agenda here? I dont.

The GTB team has always been the leader in the Tampa Bay area, and yes, even with some turnover each year. If the rumor mill is accurate, they will lose a couple of starters to the DA, and possibly a few others may go elsewhere. This team made it the furthest of the 4 in State Cup this year. A new coach could help or hurt, we'll have to see what happens at tryouts.

WFF has been getting better and better each year, and won FSPL this year, but had a disappointing state cup, not getting out of the 2nd round. Some key additions helped them a lot this year, especially the lefty forward. The coach returns, and has a good rep as a good trainer and game day coach.

TBU seems to always be a player or 2 away from doing great things. They also failed to get out of 2nd round of state cup this year. Rumors say they will lose a few players, but should pick up a few with a college coach taking over.

Chargers NPL team could use a few additions this year, as they did well in CDL, but got smoked in 2 of their state cup games. The coach is a former pro, and looks like he could be a very good coach sooner than later.

DV has won State Cup several times I believe. EO was great but that team will be in good hands.

DV will do just fine, and I believe, could improve the team through training

I started this thread not to debate which coach is better or which club is better. They each have their pros and cons. The purpose of this thread to see where the opportunities are.

There are 40 starting field player starting positions. There are probably 20 of those in play. Some of the teams have more opportunities then others.

What teams need what? The most Opps are probably at GTB and CLW

GTB team headed to Wesley Chapel

TBU moving the Keeper from u14 champs to the U17 team to shore up the back line

If you have any desire to play D1 soccer in college then you really must avoid all of these 4 teams and go to the Academy. If you look at the previous U18 teams from these 4 clubs which is probably 70+ players only around half a dozen are moving onto play college and only 1 of those is D1.

Your closest Academy choices are Clearwater, IMG, and Orlando City.

The u17/18 teams have already been chosen at Clearwater, and Ocys. Last year alone WFF sent 3 players to college( 1 to D1).

well apparently a few players from GTB and TBU are heading that way which creates spots on those teams for other players to come in. Any one know what positions these kids played on those teams?
