    NEFC Elite and Premier

Do the older NEFC Elite and Premier teams include players from satellite teams (South, South Coast, Rhode Island)? I'm wondering if there is truth to the statement that players on satellite teams in all clubs get overlooked.

I think both NEFC and GPS do well in this area. They take the time to know players from the other regions and select them for their teams.

The coaches also do a really great job at advocating for their players, and giving the regional players opportunities to play with those teams when they are short players. It's up to the player at that point to take advantage of the opportunity.

        Short answer-Yes
Daughters team took 3 from Central, 2 from Metro North and one from South Coast for this season
I would anticipate at least 2 for next year coming from the regions

yes, but generally not until 13. At U12 it was pretty much from region. At U13 and U14, my daughter's team had players from all over central and eastern Mass. (north, west, south, south shore). Same this year at U15.

Thanks. OP here. Since GPS was mentioned, can anyone explain the GPS system? do kids continue to play with their South/ West/ whatever team but if selected, play up with the elite team throughout the year? Or if selected do you leave your current team and join the elite?

Last year, they played on both teams. It was far from ideal from our standpoint (U15 girls NPL). This year, in almost all cases, they play on the higher level team exclusively.

Whatsamatter... tired of the door hitting your arse on the way out the door fred? Time to figure out that clubs like NEFC and GPS are light years ahead of what you are able to piece together.

If your are picked to play on one of the GPS state-wide teams (their NPL squads) you practice with that team 2+ times a week and playweekend matches with that team. However, you are also encouraged to continue to practice with your regional team at least once a week and maybe more and you might play matches with them as well if needed, as you remain on the regional team roster. Its not for everyone, but if your kid wants to (and you are willing to drive), he/she can be practicing or playing nearly everyday.

This is what player development is all about in the larger clubs. Creating opportunity for all levels of player to play as much soccer as they want.

Is it worth it to continue to play on the regional (lots of playing time) or is it better to make the jump upward? I'm uncertain that over an hour ride x3 days a week is going to make a greater difference in her playing in the long term. Any opinions?

This is similar with NEFC. My friends daughter plays/practices with her Elite team, but will also practice with the Regional team when she can and also play in games when she is able to.

Depends on how good the regional team is. The regional teams in some age groups are just as good as Premier, however, in other age groups there is a significant difference. In my daughters age group both the Premier and Central United play in the same league/division and are very close from a skills perspective. There really wouldn't be an advantage for my daughter to switch, however, some may feel differently. If you're talking about the Elite teams, there is a significant difference between the level of play between Elite and regional teams in most age groups.

I've been thinking of making the jump to NEFC for awhile now. NEFC south, southcoast, and Rhode Island are all within a 30 minute drive. Any word on what team tends to field stronger competition? We are smack in between all 3.
