U10 rec team, before the first game we told her $10 per goal as a joke. She had only scored 3-4 goals in the previous years so we thought we were safe. After 6 goals that first game, out $60, we decided to look into club soccer. Now U16 and a defender at a club you all know, she scores 5-6 a season and we don't pay a cent other than a "good job" and a hug.
Not the best practice to learn teamwork but it focused my daughter, having something to motivate her at a young age.

I used to pay $5 per goal, until the NCAA sent me a letter saying that they would consider my kid a professional, since he was paid to perform.

In all seriousness, and I mean this in the most constructive way possible, this is why the youth in soccer will not succeed in the US any time soon. If kids really wanted to be great and do their best, they would do it without incentative other than "wanting" to be great at what they do. I'm Sure the youth that become great in other countries become that from sheer passion of the game and not bribery.
I'm not going to lie, we did the $5 per goal thing for a season and then I sat them down and told them the truth....if you want it, you need to go get it....you are playing for you and your future, not mine! Luckily they have a decent head on their shoulders so they continue to play at a high level...not because of money but because it makes them feel good when people notice their game. A complete stranger coming up to them or even the coach from the other team asking their name and telling them they are a great player means much more to them than the $10-$20 a game.

0.00. I will be happy for them and very proud.
Stuff like this is not constructive. It is especially bad for team sports.
