    Do teams have "systems"?

Maybe this is a noobish question, and hopefully it won't draw to many flamers out of the woodwork, but:

I once had a soccer dad tell me that their kid was used to playing a system with their team.

That made me wonder about systems. Do teams have systems? Set ways they move the ball toward the goal, or is it more reactive? If so, what kind of systems are there? Can you develop set plays to move the ball forward that would actually work?

All of the teams at Celtic FC use the long ball tactic, or the renowned Celtic FC Boot and Scoot

of course teams have systems. not just the formation, but how the players in that formation move off the ball and where players should be looking to attack.

When I coached at Celtic, we were encouraged by Jimmy to work on long kicks, basically trying for a home run ball each time. We spent very little time on ball skills, or spacing.

Name 1 team in FL that does set tactical training (ie choreography)? (Not including free kicks)

Yes, our team has a really good system - score more goals than the other team....

ARE YOU DUMB? Every sport has a system. Duh!@!! Offense, Defenses, Set pieces, penalties.. DO you even know these terms? Like most Americans, the knowledge of the sport of futbol is very very prehistoric to say the least. Don't just take the words of your kids coaches alone. Learn the sport. I did. Watch live games on tv with your kid. There are EPL games that are mostly free on most cables. Try to watch the Spanish giants too and some Champions League. Talk to your Hispanic and European fiends (if you have) about the games. And there are a ton of futbol games!

The problem today is that only a few of the coaches understand the modern game. Those coaches played before where the game was basically American kickball. Nobody taught them possession based soccer or even basic strategies/system. So it is critical to look for certain coaches, rather than winning teams or big clubs. IT is very much about finding the right coach or even a trainer.
