    Tournament fee ripoffs

I am going to post every day until there is outrage about these 25% non-refundable scams being foisted upon us by the soccer clubs.
You will all come to hate me more than BTDT and Perspective.
And please save the smart retort of "don't play", because I don't.
I'm just performing a public service a la our esteemed Senators from the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Start a class action lawsuit. Of course it will be dismissed at a preliminary hearing, but it will give you something better to do than to troll youth soccer message boards. Good luck.

If I buy tournament cancellation insurance, will State Farm provide cancellation fee forgiveness if I use it only once?

Cancellations rarely happen first of all. But let's do a little math - go on the high side and say a tournament costs $1000 to enter. Tourney is cancelled, club is out $250 per team or about $13/player. If you have several teams that can add up to some decent change, so you buy the insurance. Now you're out $25/team (or $1.25/player), which is built into their cost structure. At this point the club is far more concerned with trying to find a replacement tournament because they promised their customers x number of tournaments. They read the legalize before registering for tournaments. If you have an issue with it, complain to your club.

And BTW - the refund policy is spelled out in black and white. Good luck trying to get a court to give a sh**

Put in on a credit card and then chargeback the non refundable fee. The majority of time the organization fails to respond to a chargeback and many other times the credit card company sides with the consumer.

That would probably be effective. I would be fine with the tournament keeping 5 or 10 % to cover some incurred costs, but 25% seems excessive. What are the real costs to a club for a cancelled event?

In addition, if the club benefits financially from an event, they do not share that with the participants. If they get the reward don't they carry the risk?

If your bank says there is a $50 bounced check fee and you bounce a check, do you get mad at the bank for charging you $50! They disclose the cost, your club elects to register and you pay the % agreed upon in the contract if the event is cancelled. It does not matter what the real costs are, that is not your business.

So you are asking a club to commit credit card fraud to save a few dollars! Glad you are not running my club!

Consider this - the insurance policy offered to clubs was very reasonable. Given last year I'm sure many clubs took it, especially if they entered multiple teams (it could really add up). If a large percentage took the insurance then the organizers need to cover their costs off a smaller pool of fees. That may be how they got to 25%. Those who decided not to take it are the ones feeling a bigger pinch but they were offered another option

Reasonable for who? Why should I need insurance for a soccer tournament?
                          Ripoff.
This has become insane, especially for the people justifying it.

Not the OP - but besides weather, how about the coach has a heart attack and keels over dead. Not only can he not coach but the team is devastated. Your only keeper gets injured and you can't get another one. Team bus breaks down. Whatever. 98% of the time insurance is probably not needed, but a tournament taking place in questionable weather? Absolutely

If I am interested to know these costs then it is my business. The club can tell me it is not my business if they want to. If they retain plenty of customers with that poor attitude and don't need my team's business then so be it.
